What is Disney’s Lightning Lane?

Disney Lightning Lane is a paid, virtual queuing system through Disney’s Genie+ Service introduced by Disney in 2021 to replace its previous FastPass+ system. Lightning Lane allows guests to reserve a spot in a shorter line for select attractions at Disneyland and Walt Disney World parks.

With the purchase of Disney’s Genie+ Service and using the Disney app, guests can select a ride and a designated time slot to ride the attraction via the Lightning Lane entrance. The Lightning Lane entrance is typically a separate line for guests with Lightning Lane reservations, allowing them to bypass the regular standby queue.

There are two types of Lightning Lane options available for guests: individual attraction selections, and an option to purchase the Genie+ service, which provides access to most of the participating attractions throughout the day.

It’s important to note that Lightning Lane access is subject to availability and may sell out quickly. Additionally, Lightning Lane access is not included with regular park admission and requires an additional fee.

Disney Lightning Lane Guide – How to Select a Lightning Lane Attraction

1. First, make sure you have downloaded the latest version of the Disney app and have signed in with your Disney account.

1. Purchase your Genie+.  If you have already done so, go to the next step.

You can find a list of Lightning Lane attractions for each park here.

1. Once you’re signed in, tap on the “+” sign at the bottom of the app’s home screen. This will bring up a menu of options.
2. Tap on “Get a Lightning Lane Reservation” from the menu.
3. You will then see a list of available attractions. Select the attraction you want to ride using Lightning Lane.
4. Check the return time available for that attraction. This is the time window during which you can return to ride the attraction. If the return time works for you, tap on “Join Lightning Lane” to reserve your spot.
5. You will then be prompted to confirm your selection and agree to the terms and conditions.
6. Once you have confirmed your reservation, it will be added to your itinerary. You can view your itinerary by tapping on the “My Plans” tab at the bottom of the app’s home screen.
7. When it’s time to ride, head to the attraction and look for the Lightning Lane entrance. Show your reservation on the app to the Cast Member, and you will be able to bypass the regular queue and ride the attraction using the Lightning Lane.

And that’s it! Just remember that Lightning Lane reservations are subject to availability and may sell out quickly, so it’s a good idea to make your selection as early in the day as possible.
