From Our MouseForLess Members:
MouseForLess Interesting Facts about the resort:
Tends to be quieter than Sports and Movies, attracting more adults. The rooms were redone last year and have hair dryers, Mickey soaps and shampoo, and a privacy curtain for a dressing area. -Sandra Givens
The resort tax at all of the value resorts except Pop Century is 13%. Pop Century and all moderate and deluxe resorts are located in another county and you'll pay only 12.5% tax.
MouseForLess Room Request Tips:
Jazz, (Saxophone) buildings are perfectly located near both pools and just a short walk from the main building. I don't know if these are considered prime and cost more. We made no room request before the trip and we ended up in Jazz building 2. - Stefanie in MA
Jazz Buildings are close to the main hall without paying extra for Preferred. If you really want quiet, Country is farthest away but really peaceful. -Sandra Givens
We stayed at a preferred room in the Calypso building. It was fantastic because it was right in front of the main pool and close the main building (check in/out, food court, gift shop) and the bus stop. You can also request the Jazz building which is right next to the Calypso buildings. But it didn't cost that much for us to upgrade and we were guaranteed a close room. - Renee Walker
Avoid the Cowboy/Country section, it is a very long walk at the end of the day. - Amanda D
MouseForLess Hidden Treasures:
Small garden near Broadway on the side closest to Movies. Sit and sip coffee there or at the picnic tables near Country, where you may see lizards and even the odd armadillo. -Sandra Givens
The photo opportunities are great. We have a great one of the boot in the cowboy section. It looks like it is stomping on my kids. -Amanda D
MouseForLess Tips for Romance:
For seclusion from others, try the farthest building in the back. They are usually quieter there. - Raven Williams
In the late evening, pick up a cocktail at the bar, then stop and smell the roses at the fountain in front of the Jazz buildings. Very NoLa! -Sandra Givens
I wouldn't recommend this resort for romantic getaways as it is often noisy and filled to the brim with small children. - Venus Windmiller
MouseForLess Tips for Families:
Music now has family suites with microwaves, fridges and sinks. They sleep up to six. They cost about what two rooms would, but you can eat some meals in and save. Plus you have the family all together and two bathrooms! - Sandra Givens
Great for families, especially if you get a Family Suite. Tons of room, fantastic to have 2 bathrooms. - Debbie Brown
If your little one needs a life jacket, don't bring one with you. They are available in multiple sizes by the pool. Also don't bring pool toys. Many families at the end of their vacation left them at the pool. - Renee Walker
MouseForLess Tips for Large Travel Groups:
Get a suite here. They are quite nice. I was skeptical and thought 2 regular rooms would be better, but we were upgraded to a suite in May and it's really nice having the kitchenette. There is plenty of room for 5 in this suite. - Stefanie in MA
Ask in advance if rooms can be blocked off so that the group will be housed together. A group may sometimes be located in the preferred buildings without the additional charge. A free upgrade is nice. - Raven Williams
MouseForLess Tips for Guests with Special needs:
Make this request for any special need when you book your reservation. Call one-week prior to make sure your request is prominently listed on your form. If you find out when you check in your special need request has not been honored, ask to talk to a supervisor at the front desk. This has happened to me a few times. Once I talk with a supervisor and point out the request was on my original form, they reassign me to a room that meets my needs. - Raven Williams
There are rooms with roll-in showers and king-size beds. Ask for the first floor if stairs/elevators are difficult. Calypso buildings are closest to the main hall and worth the extra charge if you have mobility issues. If you have sensory concerns, try eating your meals outside or by the pool instead of in the FC which at prime time can be very noisy. They will even package your food for you to take back to your room. -Sandra Givens
If you need to rent a fridge for medical reasons, let the front desk know! You will be able to get it free of charge (saving $10 a night). - Renee Walker
MouseForLess Tips for WDW Newbies:
The check out is great, if you don't have any charges to your room there is nothing to do and if you do have charges they will send you an itemized statement of all your charges and you still don't have to go up front unless you don't agree with the charges. It's great!! - Amy McKnight
Check in early for best room selection. Walk around and look at the huge icons on each building. Visit the other All-Stars and enjoy their icons too. Try to guess the squirt pattern of the Three Caballeros fountain in the guitar pool. Take fewer clothes than you think you need and wash a load while you take a swim. Bring quarters! Movies has a larger food court if you want some variety. -Sandra Givens
Put on your sunscreen! The bus stop has no cover and can be hot on a sunny day. - Renee Walker
MouseForLess Tips for Budget Travelers:
The toiletries in the gift shop are overpriced. Double check your personal care items before you leave home. –Green Family
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day--and the least expensive for getting the most for your dollar with a breakfast platter. Buy milk in the gift shop not in the food court. Pick up bags of chips, dip and baked goods there, too, at the same prices you would pay at home. If you are staying more than a couple of days, the refillable mugs will pay for themselves in 7 drinks. Super cheap souvenirs include the MM plastic straws for sale at checkout in the food court (about 50 cents each) and yummy bags of MM pretzels in the shop ($2.75). Pick up a few printed paper napkins in the Food Court to go with them (free)! -Sandra Givens
The value resorts are about the cheapest possible on Walt Disney World property. Use codes for discounts on packages and AAA for discounts for room only reservations. - Raven Williams
Both code discounts and AAA discounts on room only reservations can be booked through your The Magic For Less Travel Agent.
MouseForLess Tips for Luxury Travelers:
None of the value resorts include full-service restaurants. But if you have a car and are looking for a nice sit down meal the try a short drive to Coronado Springs Resort to dine at Maya Grill or Animal Kingdom Lodge for dinner at Boma or Jiko.
