DisneyBand+ on Disney Cruise Line offers a convenient way to access many features throughout your cruise without constantly reaching for your Key to the World Card. The waterproof, rechargeable wristband can unlock your stateroom door, charge purchases to your onboard account, link cruise photos, access participating youth clubs, and even add a little extra Disney magic through lights and vibrations.

If you’ve previously used a MagicBand+ at Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort, the experience will feel familiar. Even better, you may not need to purchase another band. Guests can use an existing MagicBand+ as a DisneyBand+ on eligible Disney Cruise Line sailings.

However, DisneyBand+ isn’t available on every Disney cruise. Select sailings across the Disney Cruise Line fleet offer DisneyBand+, with Disney Adventure currently excluded.

Here’s what you need to know before deciding whether to use DisneyBand+ on your next Disney cruise.

DisneyBand+ Basics

DisneyBand+ is a waterproof, rechargeable wristband designed to make several parts of your Disney Cruise Line vacation more convenient.

Guests can use DisneyBand+ to:

• Unlock their stateroom door
• Charge merchandise, specialty food, and drinks to the payment card associated with their stateroom folio
• Link photos taken by Disney Cruise Line photographers to their onboard account
• Access participating Youth Activities spaces, including Disney’s Oceaneer Club, Edge, and Vibe after registration
• Enjoy interactive lights and haptic vibrations during select onboard experiences
• Use compatible features at Disney Castaway Cay
• Make embarkation-day boarding more convenient

DisneyBand+ does not replace every item you’ll need during your cruise. Disney still provides Guests with a Key to the World Card on embarkation day, so you can choose to use the card instead. Additionally, Guests purchasing alcoholic beverages must present valid government-issued photo identification when required.

Which Disney Cruise Line Ships Use DisneyBand+?

DisneyBand+ is available on select sailings across the Disney Cruise Line fleet, with one important exception: Disney Adventure does not use DisneyBand+.

Before purchasing a DisneyBand+, visit your Disney Cruise Line reservation and check your sailing’s eligibility. If your sailing participates, Disney will provide access to the DisneyBand+ ordering options.

DisneyBand+ vs. MagicBand+

One of the most common questions is whether DisneyBand+ and MagicBand+ are the same thing.

For practical purposes, Guests who already own a compatible MagicBand+ from Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort can use it as their DisneyBand+ on eligible Disney Cruise Line sailings.

That means you don’t necessarily need to purchase a cruise-specific DisneyBand+ if you already have a MagicBand+ you like.

However, older MagicBands are not compatible with DisneyBand+ functionality aboard Disney Cruise Line. The band needs to be a MagicBand+.

Before sailing, make sure your existing MagicBand+ appears in the MyDisney account associated with your cruise reservation. Disney recommends charging the band before your trip as well.

How to Purchase DisneyBand+

Eligible Guests can purchase DisneyBand+ before their cruise or purchase one at select merchandise locations onboard, subject to availability.

For pre-arrival orders, United States residents with a booked reservation on an eligible sailing can order DisneyBand+ through My Reservations.

Guests can choose from available colors and designs and personalize eligible bands with a name printed on the inside.

Pre-arrival orders must currently be placed at least 11 days before your sail date. Disney notes that the exact online ordering window can vary.

DisneyBand+ Shipping

Pre-arrival DisneyBand+ orders can only ship to valid United States addresses, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Disney does not ship pre-arrival bands internationally.

International Guests can purchase DisneyBand+ at select onboard merchandise locations on eligible sailings, although available designs may be limited.

Planning Tip: If you want a particular design or personalized band, ordering before your cruise generally gives you more choices than waiting until you’re onboard.

Using DisneyBand+ on Embarkation Day

If you’ve purchased or linked a DisneyBand+ before your cruise, wear it to the terminal on embarkation day.

During terminal check-in, a Port Agent can activate the band for onboard use. Once activated, you’ll be able to use it for compatible features throughout your voyage.

Keep in mind that DisneyBand+ does not replace your required travel documents. You’ll still need the appropriate passport, birth certificate, identification, or other documentation required for your particular cruise.

Unlock Your Stateroom With DisneyBand+

One of the most convenient DisneyBand+ features is the ability to unlock your stateroom door with your wrist.

Simply tap your DisneyBand+ at the appropriate touch point instead of pulling out your Key to the World Card.

This can be especially useful when you’re carrying bags, returning from the pool, or traveling with children.

Charge Purchases With DisneyBand+

DisneyBand+ can also charge eligible onboard purchases to the payment card associated with your stateroom folio.

That can include purchases such as:

• Merchandise
• Specialty food
• Non-included beverages
• Other eligible onboard purchases

Rather than carrying your Key to the World Card around the ship, you can simply tap your DisneyBand+ at participating locations.

For alcoholic beverages, Guests must still meet the applicable age requirement and may need to present valid government-issued photo identification.

Link Disney Cruise Photos

DisneyBand+ can make keeping track of your cruise photos easier, too.

When a Disney Cruise Line photographer takes your picture, they can tap your DisneyBand+ to their device to associate the photo with your account.

You can then view your photos onboard through the Disney Cruise Line photo site or at Shutters Gallery.

Keep in mind that DisneyBand+ does not include the photos themselves. Photos and photo packages require a separate purchase unless they’re included through another eligible benefit, such as the current Pearl Castaway Club photo benefit.

DisneyBand+ for Kids & Youth Clubs

DisneyBand+ can also provide convenient access to participating Disney Cruise Line youth spaces.

After completing the required registration, children can use DisneyBand+ to access participating spaces including:

• Disney’s Oceaneer Club
• Edge
• Vibe

DisneyBand+ and the Oceaneer Band aren’t the same thing. DisneyBand+ is an optional purchased wristband with features used throughout the cruise, while Oceaneer Bands support youth-club access for eligible children. Families don’t need to purchase DisneyBand+ simply because their child plans to use Disney’s youth clubs.

Does DisneyBand+ Need to Be Charged?

Yes. DisneyBand+ contains a rechargeable battery that powers interactive features such as lights and haptic vibrations.

Disney currently recommends plugging in your DisneyBand+ and charging it nightly during your cruise. If you plan to reuse the band later, Disney also recommends charging it at least once every six months to help maintain battery health.

However, a dead battery doesn’t necessarily make the band useless. Some tap-based features can continue to work even when the rechargeable battery is depleted.
