The History of Kilimanjaro Safaris
When Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened on April 22, 1998, Kilimanjaro Safaris featured a storyline involving elephant poachers.
During the 1998 Cast Member previews, guests complained about the gruesome depiction of a fake elephant named Big Red, whom poachers had supposedly killed. Disney quickly removed the scene before the park officially opened.
