Did you hear the exciting news? It appears that Rivers of Light at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will officially finally be debuting this month! The show will debut on February 17 and then Guests will be able to catch the show on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays until April 8. After that time, they’ll be able to enjoy the nighttime spectacular nightly.
For those who are unaware, Rivers of Light will takes place on Discovery River and will include special effects, music and animal folklore. The show begins with an awakening of flitting fireflies that lead to a procession across the water. Then, lanterns will morph into one of four stunning animal spirit forms—the Tiger, Turtle, Elephant and Owl. This 15 minute show will feature song, light, color water, and earthly elements.
But it’s Foodie Friday, so what does this have to do with food? Well, Guests looking to see this show will be able to purchase a special Rivers of Light Dining Package! Those who purchase this package will be able to enjoy a meal from one of two participating restaurants and then receive premium seating for that evening Rivers of Light presentation.
One of the participating restaurants is Tusker House. This delicious buffet serves dishes with a bit of an African flair. Oh and did I mention that it’s also a character meal, so you’ll be able to meet Donald, Daisy, and other fun Disney favorites! Breakfast will cost $39.00 for adults (ages 10 and up) and $23.00 for children (ages 3-9). Lunch and dinner will cost $52.00 for adults and $32.00 for children.
Looking for something a little more upscale? Consider one of my personal favorites, Tiffins. Guests can dine enjoy either lunch or dinner and will receive an appetizer, entree, and dessert with the Rivers of Light Dining Package. The cost is $67.00 for adults and $26.00 for children.
Guests will receive their voucher for Rivers of Light reserved sating at the time of the meal. Make sure to arrive 15-35 minutes prior to showtime, otherwise you may not get in, even if you have paid for the dining package. Do keep in mind that seating is first come, first served. Guests who purchase the dinner package will need to enter the theater on the DinoLand U.S.A. side.
Are you curious as to what Rivers of Light may entail? A few months back, we were able to experience a sneak preview of the new show. Granted, since it’s been said the show has been changed and scaled back a bit, a few things may have changed since this preview, but this will give you a good idea of what to potentially expect to see.

How can I convert an existing Tusker House breakfast reservation to a Rivers of Light dining package?
You will have to create a new Rivers of Light specific reservation for the dining package and cancel your original reservation. I would suggest calling Disney at (407) WDW-DINE and they will be able to help you effectively.
Hi Rikki, From what I understand, the Rivers of Light Dinner Package is a prix fixe menu with an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Do you know if at Tiffins one can choose from all regular menu items, or is the prix fixe menu limited?
Do I pay at booking or at meal?
I believe you pay at the time of the meal.
As far as my understanding, you can choose whatever items you want from the regular menu. It is not a prix fixe option. This makes me happy as I have the Dining Package booked for myself and two of my favorite items that I’ll likely be ordering are on the more expensive side.
Thanks, Rikki. That’s what I was hoping. Looking forward to checking these two new boxes next month!
It says that it is Dining Plan eligible. So my question is if I reserve a lunch ADR at Tusker House it cost one dining credit. If I reserve a lunch ADR at Tusker House with the Rivers of Light Dining Package it is also just one dining credit? Or is there an extra charge on top of the dining credit for the package? The reason I ask is that I noticed the cash price is different between just the dining reservation and the dining/show package reservation.
As far as my understanding, the dining package will be one credit at Tusker House.
