Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’: A Review

Chef Art Smith's Homecomin'

On a recent trip to Walt Disney World, my husband and I decided to dine at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin‘. I am an East Coast girl, but I happen to love southern cooking! So when an opportunity to dine without kids happened, I jumped on it!

This is a relatively new restaurant at Disney Springs, opening in July of 2016. Chef Art Smith grew up in Florida and attended Florida State University. While at Florida State University, Mr. Smith took part in the Disney College Program. This is the reason he named his restaurant Homecomin’.

When stepping into the restaurant, you notice it is open and inviting. The servers wear a plaid shirt and jeans. The decor is southern. There is a lot of wood around the restaurant to give that laid-back feeling.

We were seated quickly. Our server greeted us and explained everything on the menu. Knowing nothing about moonshine, she took time to explain about moonshine and offered her opinions on some of the good drinks. She also suggested some of her favorite menu items.

Since I could not make up my mind, my server suggested combining two of the drinks. I ordered a Sweet Tea Shine with the Belle, so it tasted like an Arnold Palmer. My husband ordered the Moonshine Mash, which had watermelon infused moonshine. He commented it was delicious and you could not tell it was an alcoholic drink.

For appetizers, I ordered the Bee Haven Bay Fried Green Tomatoes. They were delicious! The tomatoes came covered in shaved ham and an excellent remoulade sauce. It was so big I could not finish it. This dish could serve as a main entree or would be great to share. My husband ordered Addie Mae’s Chicken & Dumpling Soup. The soup was filling and would be great on those cold Florida evenings.

We were so full from appetizers, I was worried about eating our entrees. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich. The chicken was moist and delicious. I am not a big fan of spicy dishes, and the hot sauce aioli was perfect – not too spicy and not bland. My husband ordered Art’s Famous Fried Chicken. He loved it! His chicken was also moist. He also enjoyed the mashed potatoes. The homemade bread and butter pickles were also another favorite of mine!

I am very sad to say that we did not save room for dessert. My choice would have been the Hummingbird Cake because I love pineapples and bananas. Although anything with chocolate, such as Auntie’s Chocolate Cake, would be another winner.

Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ does not currently participate in the Disney Dining Plan. They do, however, accept Tables in Wonderland. Our server was fantastic! She frequently checked in with us to see if we needed anything and if our food and drinks were prepared to our liking. The management was constantly circulating through the restaurant and checking in with each table. I highly recommend this restaurant next time you are looking to eat at Disney Springs.
