Did you know that this year Disneyland will celebrate 60 years of magic? To honor this monumental occasion, the Disneyland Resort will hold a special event called the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration. The fun is slated to begin on May 22 and events to mark this special occasion will take place at both Disneyland, as well as at Disney California Adventure.
Last night, we were at the special event announcing this special celebration and we wanted to share the details with you!
The first thing that guests will notice is that both Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland and the Carthay Circle Theater at Disney California Adventure will glisten and gleam as sparkly decor and festive Disneyland-blue banners will adorn both icons. In addition each will have its own diamond medallion to mark the occasion.
But that’s not where the fun stops, as the resort is also slated to get some fascinating new nighttime extravaganzas.
Starting at Disney California Adventure, Guests will be able to view a brand new version of the spectacular World of Color, called World of Color – Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney. This new show will be a celebration of both Walt Disney, as well as his dreams of Disneyland. Here Mickey Mouse will take guests on a journey through the life of Mr. Disney by showing his legacy, as well as memorable animated moments. This sounds like this will likely be a show where you’ll need to make sure you’re carrying tissues.
Over at Disneyland, where this dream all began, Guests will have the opportunity to see a brand new nighttime parade, Paint the Night. This new processional will bring innovative floats, vibrant costumes, incredible effects, and an unforgettable soundtrack. This state-of-the-art parade will feature stunning color thanks to more than 1.5 million LED lights. Popular Disney stories that will be included in this parade include Monsters Inc., Cars, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story, Frozen, and more!) This parade is currently shown in Hong Kong Disneyland, but the version that will be brought to Disneyland will feature its own unique touches–such as an homage to the giant drum from the Main Street Electrical Parade.
Finally Disneyland will be getting a brand new fireworks spectacular called Disneyland Forever. This is going to be one of the most immersive fireworks shows ever. Not only will there be dazzling fireworks, but Disney is also going to utilize projection mapping technology (similar to what currently takes place on Cinderella Castle with Celebrate the Magic Castle Projection Show at the Magic Kingdom), to create surprising special effects, not only on Main Street U.S.A., but also in other areas. The whole park will become this new show’s canvas with story scenes playing out on it’s a small world, the Matterhorn, and even the Rivers of America! Scenes from the show will include trips to Neverland with Peter Pan, floating lanterns courtesy of Flynn and Rapunzel from Tangled, and dancing with King Louie from The Jungle Book.
Disneyland Forever will feature two original songs, “Live the Magic” and “Kiss Goodnight,” the latter of which was written by legendary songwriter Richard Sherman.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Disney celebration without special merchandise and unique food offerings specific to the event. There are also a few more surprises that are expected to be announced in the coming months, relating to the 60th Anniversary, but Guests will have to wait to find out what those are.
