funnel cake

One of my favorite Walt Disney World snacks, is funnel cake!! You can find them just about anywhere on property, but my usual stop is Sleepy Hollow & the American Pavilion in Epcot! It is a must do treat for me every trip, and I’ve got a great way to recreate it at home!

Ingredients

  • 1.5 tablespoons baking powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 3.5 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable/Canola oil
  • Powdered sugar
  • Vanilla Ice Cream (optional)

Yields: 8-10 funnel cakes

Step One

In a skillet, heat about 1 inch of oil. While it’s heating, get your funnel cake batter ready!

Step Two

Mix milk, eggs, sugar & vanilla until blended thoroughly.

Step Three

Add in the baking powder, flour & salt. Continue to whisk until all lumps are gone. You don’t need to use a hand mixer or kitchenaid for this. Just a simple whisk will do!

Step Four

Using a funnel, slowly pour the mixture into the oil. Start in a spiral shape, from the outside in. If you don’t have a funnel, you can use a large ziplock or piping bag & cut the corner. As a last resort, you can use a ladle. Just be careful to not form a “pancake”. I did use a ladle, just because it was easiest. It worked fine for the first one or two!

Fry until golden brown on each side – just a few seconds each side.

Step Five

Serve on a paper toweled plate & dab off the excess oil.

Step Six

Put funnel cake on a new plate, and cover in powdered sugar. You can put as much or as little as you’d like! For an added treat, you can also toss on some vanilla ice cream.

YUM!!! Nothing ever compares to a real Walt Disney World funnel cake, but this is a delicious treat that brings the magic home, nonetheless. It’s quick, easy & fun for the whole family! If you do have leftovers, you can always save the dough or heat up a cake in the toaster oven.
