One of my favorite, not talked about restaurants is Ale & Compass Restaurant. It used to be known as Captain’s Grille and it’s located at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. The restaurant recently saw a refurbishment where the whole entire design of the place has been upgraded. From fresh coats of paint, to a new on-stage kitchen, to new soft goods, to a general refreshing, this place definitely has a more appealing design.
I’ve always been a fan of this restaurant’s breakfast, where they offered a dark chocolate waffle with espresso-mascarpone cream, chocolate shavings, and a dried cherry compote. However, when the restaurant changed over to the new name, they got rid of this delicious dish. That is until now. Just this week, it was announced that it’s back! And this girl couldn’t be happier.
But, I’m here to talk about lunch! On my recent trip, I made a stop at Ale & Compass to enjoy a delightful and filling lunch. I find this option to be the perfect mid-day escape from either Epcot of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s calming and it allows us to get inside during the heat of the day and cool off for a bit.
I decided I wanted to try the Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Tomato Soup which is served on Artisanal Country Bread, with Aged White Cheddar, Gruyère, and Fontina Cheese with Truffle Butter. Oh my goodness! This sandwich was delicious! There was a lot of good, creamy cheese and the sandwich was toasted perfectly with the right amount of crunch! The soup was very tart, but it also had a good flavor and was the perfect accompaniment to the sandwich.
My husband got the traditional, Bacon and Vermont Cheddar Burger which is served on a Parker House Bun with Applewood-smoked Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, and Herb Mayo. He found it was cooked to perfection and had extremely fresh flavors. He got served french fries and they were the thicker, puffier french fries.
For those who are vegetarians, you may want to consider this dish, which is on the appetizer section, but was very filling. The Roasted Buffalo-style Cauliflower had some decent kick to it, giving the cauliflower some great flavor. It is served with Hearts of Romaine and, as all good buffalo-style dishes should be, served with an Herb Ranch.
The menu has definitely been changing here at Ale & Compass and I think it’s moving towards the better. They are tweaking what works and what doesn’t and it makes me excited about this restaurant’s future, and my desire to want to eat here moving forward. (And because it’s off the beaten path, I do love that I can get ressies here pretty easily too!)
