I have a number of “home” resorts at Walt Disney World and one of my absolute favorites is Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The resort overall has an inviting and generally warm feeling and it simply makes happy.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is home to one of my all-time favorite counter service locations and that’s Captain Cook’s. While the restaurant itself may be hard to find (you need to travel down a hallway to access it) it’s a treasure trove of yummy food.

The theme of the restaurant is one of the islands…the restaurant features lots of dark browns, accentuated by large posters celebrating Polynesia life. Captain Cook’s features American dishes with Polynesian influence and because of that the menu overall is quite delicious with different sandwiches, flatbreads, Asian noodles, fried rice, Thai coconut meatballs, salads and more.

Captain Cook's

One of my must dos at Captain Cook’s are the Pulled Pork Nachos. These are so delicious! They are topped with Onions, Cheese, Spicy Mayo, Pico de Gallo and Pineapple Salsa. I love that there are two different kinds of chips that make up the base – one is a homemade potato chip and the other is a wonton-type chip. There are a TON of toppings….this is not a skimpy dish in the slightest. Matter of fact, for those looking to share this an appetizer, it can totally be done.

As far as the more American options, we also got the 1/3 lb Angus Bacon Cheeseburger which is served with American Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes, and Pickles on a Brioche Bun. This is your standard Disney burger and fries. While good and a nice option for a pickier eater, I would strongly suggest you try one of the more unique dishes that can be found on the menu.

Captain Cook’s is always a good solid choice in all the time I’ve been going to Walt Disney World, the restaurant has not let me down. It’s been a great choice year after year and I highly suggest that if you haven’t tried it before, you do!
