Today, the Mouse For Less Blog would like to welcome Tim, with this fun article about MagicBands!
“Mama always said, life was like a box of magic bands…you look inside and you find your key to the world.”
You might say I’m having about as good a Disney week as you can have while away from the magic. First, I got the invitation from Rikki to join the Mouse for Less Blog family. The next day, my wife and I received our MagicBands for our upcoming trip.
As these are my first set of bands, I had previously only heard about the delivery from others. Perhaps the most common criticism I had heard was about the packaging and the presumed expense of sending these, and rationally and intellectually I can understand that. Emotionally, however, the presentation accentuates the excitement and really gets you ready to go “home.”
Once you remove the outer packaging, the first thing you notice is Mrs. Incredible (also known as “Elastigirl”) wrapped all around the box, continuing the use of The Incredibles as the mascots of all things My Disney Experience.
Inside the box, each of the MagicBands sits Mickey head up and your personalized names in front of each. For ours, I chose Grumpy and a blue band, and my wife chose Eeyore for her green band (but only because of the much maligned lack of purple). The boxes hold up to four bands, so when you name them you can choose real names, nicknames, or even a special message for a family surprise.
On the inside cover of the box are some instructions for putting on or resizing your bands. The standard band is pretty large, but you can easily modify it for those with smaller wrists.
Since we are Disney Vacation Club members, our box also included sliders for each of us nestled inside the bands. If you are an Annual Pass holder, you’ll also receive a slider in your package; make sure you pull the tray holding the bands out and check underneath so you don’t miss anything!
Going to Disney World is exciting; I don’t think anyone here would dispute that. While much has been made about the amount of planning involved in a trip these days, the customization of MagicBands, and the subsequent anticipation of their receipt, can really get you into the Disney mood leading up to your trip. For me, anything that amps up the excitement for longer and brings a little bit of magic to you is a good thing, and I can’t wait to start using mine.
What’s your favorite part about receiving your box of MagicBands?
