Fairy Gifts

We like to incorporate a family tradition into our Walt Disney World vacations.  That includes a trip to the Dollar Store and the Target discount area prior to our vacations.  These are the perfect places to purchase small gifts to pack in your luggage to give to the children throughout your vacation.  We call those gifts, “the fairy gifts”.

When we are in our Disney hotel we would head out for the parks for the day but one of us would stay back in the room to get that “last minute item” we forgot.  Then we would hide our Fairy Gifts somewhere in the room for the children to find when we returned from the park.  This has become such a big hit with our kids that they expect that it would happen when we are on other vacations; but it can’t because the fairies are only at Disney!

It’s a pre-vacation tradition to pick up these items when we shop (without the children) because it is just as fun for us to do this as well.  These stores have great items such a small coloring book sets, glow sticks, glow necklaces, glow wands, themed pencil sets, bubbles, jelly beans, punching balloons, puzzles, books, gold coin chocolates, sunglasses, beach balls, water bottles, bath bombs, and more!  Many times these items are Disney themed so you are getting the benefit of spending less before you arrive to your destination and the kids feel like they are experiencing Disney magic!

We sometimes wrap the Fairy Gifts in tissue paper that we pack ahead of time or just leave them out unwrapped.  But for the children, half the fun is wondering if the fairies left them a gift in the room when we return from our day out.  We enjoy it just as much as they do because we know we saved a little money; but were still able to give the kids little trinkets outside of the souvenirs they purchase while on the trip.

One other great tip is to purchase rain ponchos at the dollar store or discounts stores to pack in your theme park bags.  They fold up very small and cost much less than the ponchos that you can purchase in Disney.  Note, if you have a car while on vacation and go to the local Target or WalMart they have a lot of Disney-themed merchandise including Mickey ponchos in their stores in Orlando.
