I received this app for the purpose of the following review.

The Cinderella Storybook Deluxe app is another in the increasing line of stories from Disney Publishing Worldwide Applications.  I look back to my childhood and the read-a-long storybooks on vinyl records (45s).  Do you remember those?  There was a “ding” or other sound for when to turn the page.  In these storybook deluxe apps, each word is highlighted as it is spoken.  This technology really has improved the way our children are introduced to reading!

The Cinderella Storybook Deluxe app starts out with the choices of being read to, reading independently, and activities.  I started with having the story read to me.  Until recently, Cinderella was my daughter’s favorite princess story.  It’s funny, though, that she came running over to see what I was doing as soon as I started listening to the story.

Cinderella 2

Like many of the storybook deluxe apps from Disney, this story contains a mixture of still photos/drawings and video or moving elements.  It wasn’t truly a clip from the movie, but there were several times that the animals moved within the screen.  In the screen shot above, the birds chirped and flapped their wings when I touched the circles.

Cinderella 4

After hearing the story, I headed over to the activities section.  There is a sing-along for “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo”, six pictures to paint, and six puzzles.  Enough to keep a young girl busy for a while.

Cinderella 3

Most young girls will like the painting on this app.  See the upper left hand color that looks like a jewel?  That’s what I used to make the glittery color on this picture.  While I was painting with it, glitter fell down the dress.  I tried to capture it in my screen shot, but it is a little hard to see.  It is a really neat effect, though.

Cinderella 5

Finally, the puzzles.  These are definitely for the younger set as the puzzle above is the “3 slipper” category or hardest one.  Isn’t that cute how they rated them in slippers?  It may be hard to see, but the above puzzle has a photo of the coach being pulled by horses.  When I finished the puzzle, the horses pulled the coach down the road.

I like the Cinderella Storybook Deluxe app for its simplicity and for its staying true to the timeless art from the movie.  The app is priced at $3.99 and is supposed to work on the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch.  I tested this app on my iPad.  As always, please verify that your device meets the criteria listed before buying this app.

Disclosure:  I received this app free of charge for the purpose of this review.  I received no other compensation from Disney, nor was I required to post a positive review.  All opinions are 100% mine.
