We all know how exciting it is to save money on a Disney vacation, right? Even a small savings can help pay for some Mickey Bars or a t-shirt.
TheMouseForLess has a great new way to help you save on your next trip. By using our link to Raise.com, you can save up to 4.5% on your purchase of Target gift cards (and help support the MFL site in the process).
Your Target gift cards from Raise.com will be electronic cards for online use. Once you have them purchased, go online to Target.com and purchase your Disney gift cards. If you have a Target Red Card associated with your account, you will save an additional 5% off of this purchase.
Then once you get your Disney Gift cards, use them to pay for your trip, or bring them with you on your adventure and use them to pay for food, souvenirs, or any expenses at Disneyland or Walt Disney World during your trip.
This method can allow you to save up to 9.5% off of your next Disney vacation (not to mention there may be other Disney specials that are separate from this savings).
So to do this effectively, remember you will need:
- A Target Red Card that is associated with your Target.com account
- A little time and patience
While you can also purchase Disney Gift Cards at your local Target store with your Target Red Card and receive a 5% discount, you cannot use the gift cards for payment without putting at least a portion of your purchase on your Red Card.
Also remember that Target offers a Red Card credit and debit version. So you can choose the card type that works for you. Either one provides the 5% discount. Also note that not all gift cards work like this, but since Disney is an entertainment card, it qualifies for the discount.
Occasionally Target’s website will sell out of the Disney cards temporarily. They will be back in stock soon. Also, watch for sales as occasionally Target offers additional incentives (such as a $5 gift card for $50 in gift card purchases).
Target generally offers Disney Gift Cards in $50 and $100 denominations. While you can use multiple cards for your trip, if you prefer to combine them, you can use https://www.disneygiftcard.com/ to transfer balances and combine your cards up to $1000.
It is EXTREMELY important to remember to keep your gift cards when using them for a vacation purchase. If for some reason you have to cancel your trip, the refund will go on your original form of payment: in this case your Disney Gift Card. Once you travel you should be able to destroy the cards.
Remember you can do this over time, and purchase the Disney Cards as the budget allows.
Whew! That’s a fantastic way to turn a little bit of time into a savings for your trip.

If you deposit your Disney gift cards into the Disney Vacation Account, you’ll also get $20 back for every $1000 you spend on vacations. That’s the current rate at least up until December this year. And, Target had a special while we were saving for our trip. It was $10 off every $100 Target gift card. Bought Target giftcards on sale, waited the 2-3 days you have to wait to use them. Bought Disney giftcards for slightly more than I had in Target gift cards. The final result after the red card 5% was that they put .$86 back onto one of my giftcards. Long drawn out procedure, but every little bit helps! (note that it didn’t take ANYTHING off my redcard/bank account)
Question. I used a Disney travel agent to book our trip and put down a $200 deposit. The rest of the funds are due by the end of the month (March). Can I use Disney gift cards to pay for my trip or did I just lose out on that option by using a travel agent?

Have you done this recently? I just went to Raise.com and under “details” of a Target eGiftCard it says that “Gift cards may not be used toward the purchase of other gift cards.” Thank you for any guidance!
I do this on a regular basis. We are AP holders, and now that our kids are teenagers, they don’t stay with us through the day and often go to DL by themselves. They each have a Disney GC that they keep with them. I constantly monitor the the Target GC price from Raise.com. When it is at a good discount (above 4.0%), I make purchases, then go to Target.com to purchase the gift cards and refill the kids’ Disney GC so that they only need to have their one gift card with them to make purchases. I forgot what category they consider the Disney GC, but it is not considered a regular GC in Target’s view, so if you have a Red Card registered, you’d get the 5% discount. 🙂
After buying $400 worth of Disney cards with Target gift cards, it now cancels all of my orders. Anyone have experience of this happening? not nearly enough to finance my vacation!
yes i just reached out to target corp. it was a new policy just installed. you can not use gift cards to buy gift cards. this way or doing it is now gone. if anyone else has any ideas please share
I just had the same issue. I had purchased gift cards last month through this method and it worked. Just purchased $300 more in Target gift cards from Raise and now I’m stuck with $300 in Target gift cards I can’t use for Disney gift cards. Sad day.
You need to update this post. Target’s online gift card policy has changed. You can no longer use your egift cards from Raise to buy disney gift cards in their online store. However, you can buy them in store.
1. You just install the target app on your phone.
2. Sign in to your target app at checkout
3. Have the cashier scan your gift cards off your phone via the app to apply them to your order.
I just bought $1075 in disney gift cards last night from my local target store doing what I described above.
What I’m wondering now is: can you pay part of your instore order with your redcard and the rest with your egift cards via your phone and get the redcard 5% discount?
