On Batuu, Enjoy Exotic Flavors from a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Disney’s most detailed and immersive land ever created, also shines when it comes to satisfying the culinary expectations of Star Wars fans. Food on Batuu is colorful and well worth exploring.

From Tip-yip to Oi-oi Puff—There is Something for Everyone at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo

Batuu diners will not be disappointed with the offerings of the flagship eatery at Black Spire Outpost. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo is a fast-casual restaurant and, like everything on Batuu, comes with a story. Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs, whose travels across the galaxy allow him to have a pantry filled with exotic ingredients, has docked his transport shuttle on top of Docking Bay 7. Using his shuttle as a mobile kitchen and restaurant, he has turned the hangar into Tuggs’ Grub, a place where hungry travelers can enjoy unusual dishes such as Kaadu ribs and Endorian Tip-yip.

Kaadu Ribs

The best—albeit priciest—dish served by Tuggs is the Braised Shaak Roast, a brisket served with wilted kale, mushrooms, and cavatelli. Only available for dinner, it will set you back $18.99, plus tax. Served both at lunch and dinner are the Smoked Kaadu Ribs. These sticky pork ribs with Korean-inspired basting are served with a blueberry corn muffin and cabbage slaw.

The Tip-yip Salad and the Fried Endorian Tip-yip dish will satisfy those who crave chicken. I personally am not a fan and by far preferred the Yobshrimp Noodle Salad (grilled shrimp with marinated noodles, vegetables, and cilantro). Kids meals are available but may not appeal to non-adventurous eaters.

The vegetarian lunch offering is the Mediterranean-inspired Felucian Garden Spread, a plant-based kefta with hummus, and a tomato-cucumber relish served on pita bread. At dinner, a plant-based meat loaf, dubbed Ithorian Garden Loaf, is served with roasted seasonal vegetables, potato mash, and a mushroom sauce.

The restaurant also serves breakfast. The Rising Moons Overnight Oats, yogurt with oats and fresh fruit, is perfect for a healthy start to the day. I do not recommend any of the three specialty drinks. With so many amazing drinks available at Oga’s Cantina, I would stick to fountain beverages or water.

Chef Cookie whips up two desserts: the Batuu-bon, chocolate cake filled with white chocolate mousse and coffee custard; and the Oi-oi Puff, a raspberry cream puff with passion fruit mousse. Both are heavy but absolutely delicious.

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo has plenty of seating inside and outside. Be prepared to eat with sporks that fit perfectly with the theming of the land. Unfortunately, the villagers of Batuu are reporting that off-worlders are forgetting their manners and taking the sporks home!

Ronto Roasters—the Perfect Stop for a Quick Bite

The kiosk derives its name from the large animals on Tattooine. Disney lore has it that the meat is grilled over a converted pod racing engine-turned-barbecue pit. As you visit you will see 8D-JB, a former smelter droid, manning the pit, all the while complaining about his job. The eatery is owned by the local podracing fan Bakkar.

Ronto Roasters offers a breakfast morning wrap of scrambled eggs, cheese, and a peppercorn sauce inside a pita, as well as the Rising Moons Overnight Oats yogurt.

By far the most exciting item on the menu, however, is the Ronto Wrap. Tasty roasted pork and grilled sausage with peppercorn sauce and tangy slaw is served wrapped in a pita. The joint also serves a sweet or spicy Nuna Turkey Jerky and several specialty drinks.

Black Spire Outpost Market: Home of the Milk Stand and Kat Saka’s Kettle

While discovering Blackspire Outpost, stop at Kat Saka’s Kettle, which sells a colorful mix of sweet-and-spicy popcorn and the famed, specialty bottled Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Sprite, and Dasani beverages. If you want to go all out, buy your popcorn with the MSE-6 Series Repair Droid souvenir popcorn vessel.

The Milk Stand serves the Batuuan favorites—Blue Milk and Green Milk. Before you buy the plant-based dairy frozen drink for your entire party, make sure you like it. It is an acquired taste, to say the least. The taste and texture are unusual, especially for guests who are not used to plant-based drinks. At $7.99 the novelty drink does not come cheap, and I recommend you buy one to share—and see if you like it—before ordering more.

Mobile ordering is available at Ronto Rosters, Milk Stand, and Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo.

The food on Batuu is exciting, albeit otherworldly. I personally like innovative dishes, and I am thrilled that the land does not offer the usual hamburger and fries. However, it remains to be seen if the off-world guests will continue to go for it; only the ancients know.
