They are honestly the questions I’ve been getting asked the most by Disney fans lately. When did I think that the 50th anniversary for the Walt Disney World Resort would kick off. Also, how long did I think would it run? Today, Disney shared those very details, plus a few more of how they are going to make this fantastic celebration even more special.
The Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary will kick off on the Resort’s actual anniversary, October 1! (The Resort officially opened on October 1, 1971.) The celebration will be called “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” and will run for 18 months!
Now, what kind of fun will we, as Guests, get to experience? Well, here are the details we have so far.
First, there will be additions to the royal makeover that was done to Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom. The castle will feature gold bunting and a 50th anniversary crest. Then, in the evening, as part of the Beacons of Magic, the four park icons will have unique lighting! Cinderella Castle will light up with pixie dust.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have special touches on the Hollywood Tower Hotel.
The Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will feature magical fireflies.
At EPCOT, there will be new, permanent lighting that will all connect to one another and resemble the stars in the nighttime sky.
Of course, the main mice, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will be participating with brand new sparkling looks for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration”. The pair will be dressed for the occasion in custom-made fashions of EARidescent fabric with gold highlights.
Of course, this is just the beginning of the details of the 50th celebration of Walt Disney World. When details are released, we’ll share them with you.
