Today, at the IAPPA Expo Virtual Education Conference (which, for those who don’t know, is a big expo that happens yearly for the theme park industry), Disney shared some additional details about the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction for EPCOT. This attraction is slated to be amazing!

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be a family-friendly “storytelling coaster” and it will feature a groundbreaking ride system with what are being called Omnicoaster vehicles that rotate 360 degrees and includes the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster!

What is an Omnicoaster? It is a first- of-its-kind programmable roller coaster ride system, where Guests will find themselves rotated along the ride track in any direction, courtesy of the ride vehicle showcasing what it wants you to see, while traveling at high speeds.

The Omnicoaster is actually built upon the Omnimover ride system that is in use at attractions like The Haunted Mansion and Spaceship Earth in which the attraction vehicles are able to turn Guests in any direction and focus their attention on a specific scene or element.

In the overview video that was show today during the conference, we even got to see footage of what the attraction looks like inside that giant building that houses the attraction. (Trust me….you can’t miss this building when visiting EPCOT….it’s massive!)

Disney also recently shared a photo of the attraction vehicles on their social media:

Finally, take a look at the video that was released to see just a glimpse of what this attraction will be like:

The story of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind goes like this. Guests will enter in the “Galaxarium,” a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. Then the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive and, of course, things don’t quite go as planned.

There is still no official opening date for the attraction.
