With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, there will be a number of merchandise locations and one such location that will sure to be popular will be Savi’s Workshop. What is Savi’s Workshop? Here, Guests will be able to build their own personalized lightsaber and be brought into the story of “living” on the planet of Batuu.
As the backstory goes, due to the need to be secretive, Guests won’t easily be able to locate Savi’s Workshop. The location will be “hidden” in plain sight and looks like a salvage business, which was created as a front to hide Savi’s actual mission of guiding the next generation of Force wielders and helping them create their unique lightsabers.
Those who have felt the call of the force and would like to create a lightsaber can arrange an appointment to meet with the Gatherers and you will need a secret phrase to enter. (There is no word on if an actual appointment will need to be created ahead of time, nor how to go about creating an appointment, if one is actually necessary.) Who are the Gatherers? They are a group of men and women who have dedicated their lives to restoring balance in the galaxy by passing on their knowledge of the Force and the ancient ways of the Jedi. They are there to guide those who seek assistance in creating a lightsaber.
These Gatherers have compiled a collection of stories, kyber crystals, as well as other saber parts and are considered to be the “keepers of the Force”. They have passed down their knowledge from generation to generation and Savi was one of the original Gatherers. (Which is why you are headed to his workshop.) As a believer in the Jedi Order, Savi has passed on his knowledge of Jedi lore to these other Gatherers.
Once inside Savi’s Workshop, you’ll see the Builders who have all the various odds and ends that will become key elements in the building of your very own lightsabers. In the center of the room, Guests will see a large oval-shaped table assembled from ancient pieces salvaged from across the galaxy known as the Builder’s Table. Keep in mind that this is a limited experience, as the Builder’s Table can only accommodate up to 14 lightsaber builders at a time.
There will be four types of lightsabers that can be built when visiting Savi’s Workshop. They include:
- Peace and Justice: Salvaged from fallen Jedi temples and crashed starships, these lightsaber pieces were created for Force wielders of the Republic era. The simple designs reflect the commitment to the devout life of those whom they were created by – the Jedi Order – the once guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy.
- Power and Control: Reclaimed from the ashes of the rumored Sith home world and abandoned Sith temples, these lightsaber pieces were originally forged by the Sith of their time. Characterized by sharp and strong forms, these pieces showcase the brutality and relentlessness of the Sith’s insatiable desire for power and control.
- Protection and Defense: Cultivated from a time forgotten, these earliest lightsaber pieces contain designs and inscriptions that are shrouded in mystery. Believed to be created for protection and defense, conferring anonymity and symbolizing emotional detachment, a lightsaber made from these pieces reconnects the user with the most ancient wellspring of the Force.
- Elemental Nature: As we have been told, The Force is an energy field created by all living things; it surrounds us, penetrates us and binds the galaxy together. These lightsaber pieces are born of that same Force. They are as unique as the user and as the elements of nature: the wood from a Brylark tree, a bone of the Cartusion whale or even a tooth from a Rancor.
