Nine Dragons Restaurant's Honey Sesame Chicken recipe

Honey Sesame Chicken recipe. This dish is a lot sweeter than the sesame chicken you may get at your local Chinese restaurant, but it's a delicious departure. The Nine Dragons Honey Sesame Chicken is also something that I know I can make on the fly, because I usually have all of these ingredients in my kitchen already. When I made this, I tripled the Nine Dragons recipe, because the 4- person serving size is not enough for my family of six.

Ingredients

  • Ingredients for batter
  • ¾ cup all purpose flower
  • 2/3 cup water
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 heaping tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • pinch of salt
  • Ingredients for marinade
  • ¾ lb boneless skinless chicken breast
  • ½ cooking wine I used white wine
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • Dash of white pepper
  • salt to taste
  • sugar to taste
  • Ingredients for honey sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Mix together the flour, cornstarch and baking powder. Beat the egg white and it it along with the water and oil. Mix all of the ingredients until they are well blended. Then set aside the batter for about 30 minutes while you make the other components.
  • Cut the chicken into bite sized pieces. Mix together the rest of the marinade ingredients in a medium bowl, add in the chicken and stir it to make sure the chicken is all coated. Then cover and let it marinade for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, you can make your honey sauce
  • Mix all of the honey sauce ingredients in a bowl and set aside for when the chicken has been cooked.
  • Now it's time to cook your chicken. You will want to heat a large wok or saucepan with about two inches of vegetable oil. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches a temperature of around 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Remove your chicken from its marinade and place the pieces into the batter dish.
  • Remove each piece of chicken from the batter and drop it into the hot oil. Fry the pieces in batches for 2-3 minutes until they are golden brown and then lay them on paper towels to drain off the oil.
  • Once the chicken is all complete, mix the pieces with the honey sauce until well coated. Then add on some sesame seeds and/or green onions for garnish. I'll be honest, I was so excited to eat this that I skipped the garnish so I could eat it more quickly. It is wonderfully savory and sweet, and the textures are versatile from the soft chicken and the crunchy exterior.
