The first time we visited Walt Disney World, our boys were 2 and 4-years-old.\u00a0 It was a wonderful, magical vacation, and we have many treasured memories from that trip.\u00a0 One of our favorite memories to laugh about is when my youngest son peed on Goofy\u2019s Barnstormer (which has continued to be one of his favorite rides ever since).<\/p>\n

Before you become too alarmed about cleanliness at the parks, let me clarify.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t actual pee on the ride.\u00a0 He peed on his mother while waiting to board.\u00a0 It is a funny story, but I share with you not just for a laugh, but as an example of how accidents happen in the park, but the best thing to do is laugh them off and keep going.<\/p>\n

We had arrived at Magic Kingdom just before it opened, had enjoyed several attractions and been at the \u201cgates\u201d of Mickey\u2019s Toon Town Fair when it opened.\u00a0 We had seen Mickey and Minnie and had stopped to ride Goofy\u2019s Barnstormer before leaving that section of the park.<\/p>\n

My youngest was still in diapers, but showing signs of being ready to potty train.\u00a0 One of his most telling signs was that he did not like to wet his diaper.\u00a0 He had begun to dislike that feeling, and, on his own, had decided to try to avoid it.\u00a0 His way of avoiding that sensation was to not go to the bathroom at all.\u00a0 This made for a very grumpy toddler.<\/p>\n

As we stood in line for Goofy\u2019s Barnstormer, the toddler\u2019s grumpiness was reaching a peak.\u00a0 I was holding him on my hip and telling him that he was in a bad mood because he needed to potty.\u00a0 I was trying to convince him to stop \u201cholding it.\u201d\u00a0 The line continued to move forward, and we knew that we would be on the next ride.\u00a0 As I stood there trying to convince my baby to give up his stubbornness, I felt something warm on my side and hip.\u00a0 I praised my little one for finally doing what he needed to do, but during my praising I began to become concerned about what I was feeling on my side.\u00a0 Instead of a warm diaper, I was feeling real heat.\u00a0 I realized that I had inadvertently pushed his diaper to one side as I held him on my hip and that the diaper was doing nothing for either of us.\u00a0 At that point, the train pulled into the station ready for us to load.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s a mom to do?\u00a0 Get out of 20-minute line only to stand in it again a few minutes later?\u00a0 No way!\u00a0 The casualties of this accident were the side of my shirt and the front of his pants.\u00a0 I decided that those areas would not touch the train cars, thus not contaminate them for future riders.\u00a0 So we rode, and we had a happy toddler who was no longer grumpy.<\/p>\n

After the ride, we went into the restroom.\u00a0 His pants were very thin and already dry, but I washed them out anyway.\u00a0 I washed out the side of my shirt.\u00a0 Used the hand dryer to get the items somewhat dry.\u00a0 Re-diapered my boy, and off we went.<\/p>\n

This experience just goes to show that a little accident is not worth getting upset over and does not have to spoil anyone\u2019s fun.\u00a0 In fact, an accident can become a memorable experience passed down and retold in the family lore.\u00a0 Whenever we rode Goofy\u2019s Barnstormer after that day, we laughed about what happened.\u00a0 Now my little one is 8, and we are all very sorry that we will not be able to ride Goofy\u2019s Barnstormer this year because of the remodeling at WDW.\u00a0\u00a0 We hope to see that attraction resurface in the future.<\/p>\n
