{"id":72129,"date":"2019-07-22T12:00:23","date_gmt":"2019-07-22T16:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/?p=72129"},"modified":"2019-07-19T17:53:56","modified_gmt":"2019-07-19T21:53:56","slug":"twilight-zone-tower-of-terror-at-25-fun-facts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/twilight-zone-tower-of-terror-at-25-fun-facts\/","title":{"rendered":"Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at 25: Fun Facts"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_72239\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72239\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72239 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/image2-400x400.jpeg\" alt=\"Twilight Zone Tower of Terror\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/image2-400x400.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/image2-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/image2.jpeg 599w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72239\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In 1994, after a two year wait, the Tower of Terror opened and our Stuart could begin to appreciate one of Walt Disney World&#8217;s best rides. 25 years later it is still a favorite.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We went to Disney World in 1992 and almost immediately our son Stuart found out that Disney planned to open a new e-ticket attraction.\u00a0 Today, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/walt-disney-world\/parks\/disneys-hollywood-studios\/the-twilight-zone-tower-of-terror\/\">Twilight Zone Tower of Terror<\/a> turns 25.\u00a0 We weren&#8217;t there until December and it was a long wait.\u00a0 To celebrate this anniversary here are some fun facts on one of our favorite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/walt-disney-world\/parks\/disneys-hollywood-studios\/\">Disney&#8217;s Hollywood Studios<\/a> attractions.<\/p>\n<h3>The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Creation<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Several different themes were considered including ones based on Stephen King, Vincent Price and Mel Brooks.<\/li>\n<li>Walt Disney Imagineers viewed all 156 episodes of \u201cThe Twilight Zone\u201d for inspiration when creating The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror<\/li>\n<li>Site-clearing and prep began early in 1992, but a sinkhole led to a slight change in the plan.<\/li>\n<li>The back of the tower is designed to blend into Morocco Pavilion when viewed from Epcot.<\/li>\n<li>The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror was the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/walt-disney-world\/planning\/\">Disney World<\/a> e-Ticket attraction that offers recorded video of guest on August 13, 2014.<\/li>\n<li>The original Cast Member bell hop outfits cost over $1000 each to create.<\/li>\n<li>The ride has gone through several upgrades and improvements and is currently undergoing another. The ride is open during these refurbishments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Building the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Story<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The story begins on Halloween night \u2013 October 31, 1939 when lightning strikes the Hollywood Tower Hotel . . .<\/li>\n<li>The introductory film clip of Rod Serling comes from the \u201cIt\u2019s a Good Life\u201d episode.<\/li>\n<li>Rod Serling\u2019s widow, Carol Serling, acted as a consultant during the auditions for the voice actor who would provide Serling\u2019s voice.<\/li>\n<li>Voice actor, Mark Silverman, was selected and he has since gone on to portray Serling in the Disney California Adventure attraction, an episode of \u201cMedium\u201d..<\/li>\n<li>The last scene before the drop, \u201cthe Fifth Dimension\u201d was partially based on the \u201cLittle Girl Lost\u201d episode of \u201cThe Twilight Zone.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The hotel has a plaque awarding the hotel 13 Diamonds by AAA<\/li>\n<li>There are more than a dozen artifacts and references to the Twilight Zone TV Show hidden throughout the ride,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The Hollywood Tower Hotel Building<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Hollywood Tower Hotel is 199 feet tall. One more foot and a blinking light would be required. Only the Expedition Everest attraction is higher at 199.5 Feet.<\/li>\n<li>The architecture and grounds were inspired by California landmarks such as the Mission Inn, Biltmore Hotel and Griffith Park.<\/li>\n<li>The building features 27,000 roof tiles.<\/li>\n<li>The lobby furniture are antiques purchased at Los Angeles auction houses.<\/li>\n<li>The Mahjong Game is an actual unfinished game played by professional Mahjong players left in progress.<\/li>\n<li>The 19<sup>th<\/sup> Century sculptor Auguste Moreau created many of the lobby sculptures. Some of the original sculpture castings can be found for sale in art houses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72241\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72241\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72241 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/image3-2-400x317.jpeg\" alt=\"Twilight Zone Tower of Terror\" width=\"400\" height=\"317\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/image3-2-400x317.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/image3-2.jpeg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72241\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In 1994 the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror was &#8220;The Ride&#8221; featured on the daily MGM Studios map. Although replaced by newer attractions, The Tower of Terror remains a fun e-ticket attraction.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>The Ride<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror not only has a height requirement, but an age requirement as well. Children under 7 must be accompanied by an individual that is 14 or older.<\/li>\n<li>When the ride was first opened, there was only a single drop but now the drop sequence may include up to 6 drops. The largest drop is 130 feet (13 stories) and is included on every ride.<\/li>\n<li>A computer randomly picks the ride profile and sequences before you begin. There are four ride profiles leading to multiple sequences.<\/li>\n<li>When first created the sole center seat was restrained by a seat belt while all other seats had bar restraints. Riders had an enhanced sense of weightlessness during the large drop.<\/li>\n<li>The ride vehicle is an elevator car playing on a common fear of elevators which combines claustrophobia and agoraphobia,<\/li>\n<li>The Tower of Terror does not have a free fall. The cars are actually pulled down in order to achieve a speed of 39 miles per hour.<\/li>\n<li>When the car moves through the tower it moves on its own battery power.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Disney Connection<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The concierge desk has a copy of Photoplay Magazine featuring \u201cFour Pages of Hilarious Star Caricatures by Walt Disney\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Under a trumpet in the Library room the sheet music for \u201cWhat!
