Liliane Opsomer, coauthor of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids<\/em><\/a>, went on a discovery mission and shares with us Universal Orlando Resort<\/a> fun facts.<\/p>\n

Film locations, fictional and real, are recognized in the\u00a0facades in the New York section of the park.\u00a0Some fictional film locations include Hudson Street Home for Girls (Annie),<\/em> Embryo Books (Funny Face),<\/em> Macy\u2019s (Miracle on 34th Street),<\/em> and The Empire Hotel (Vertigo)<\/em>. Sets inspired by real locations include The Palace Theatre and a miniature reproduction of Central Park.<\/p>\n

Each window of the Metropolis Tribune building is marked with the name of someone who helped in the development of Universal Studios Florida. In the Revenge Of The Mummy, a miniature golden King Kong statue in the treasure room is a nod to the former Kongfrontation.<\/p>\n

Steven\u00a0Spielberg, who worked closely with Universal Orlando Resort on developing Universal Studios, can be spotted in several rides, including as an alien in Men in Black: Alien Attack and as a \u201csimpsonized\u201d version in The Simpsons Ride. In\u00a0Men in Black: Alien Attack, Spielberg can be seen wearing a\u00a0Jurassic Park\u00a0baseball cap and reading a newspaper. When shot at, the figure lowers its newspaper, revealing a triple-headed alien.<\/p>\n

At Moe\u2019s Tavern, the amazing replica of\u00a0Homer and Barney\u2019s haunt from\u00a0The Simpsons\u00a0<\/em>television series, you can grab a Duff beer at the bar. If the red telephone\u00a0on the corner of the bar rings, pick it up and let us know who was on the line.<\/p>\n

Want a direct line to\u00a0the Ministry of Magic? Go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter<\/a>\u2014Diagon Alley<\/a> and dial 62442 (MAGIC) in the phone booth outside King\u2019s Cross Station.<\/p>\n

Just a little farther, at\u00a012 Grimmauld Place, you can see Kreacher the House Elf peeking through the window every few minutes.<\/p>\n

The snake at the Magical Menagerie shop can be heard speaking in Parseltongue and English.<\/p>\n

The window at Mr. Mullpepper\u2019s Apothecary displays a set of shark teeth; in a record shop in the London section, guests can see Quint Trio\u2019s recording of \u201cHere’s to Swimmin\u2019 with Bowlegged Women.\u201d Both displays are a tribute to Jaws.<\/em><\/p>\n

Over at Islands of Adventure, if you are sending postcards, make sure to mail them from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter\u2014Hogsmeade<\/a> because your letters will get a special Hogsmeade postmark.<\/p>\n

Did you know that\u00a0Dr. Seuss never drew straight lines in his illustrations? To stay true to Dr. Seuss\u2019s vision, there are no straight lines in Seuss Landing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A guest favorite is the hidden song list of the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit<\/a>. Next time you experience the attraction, push and hold\u00a0the\u00a0Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit logo and enter a three-digit code in the keypad.\u00a0\u201cStart Me Up\u201d by the Rolling Stones is 122,\u00a0130 will get you\u00a0\u201cWon\u2019t Get Fooled Again\u201d by the Who, and 703 brings up\u00a0\u201cFor Whom The Bell Tolls\u201d by Metallica\u2014a perfect song for blasting off in the largest\u00a0X-Coaster\u00a0ever built by German manufacturer\u00a0Maurer S\u00f6hne.<\/p>\n

Universal\u2019s Volcano Bay<\/a> also has some fun facts. At Hammerhead Beach, where guests can enter TeAwa the Fearless River, waves regularly trigger a blowhole geyser that blasts a towering plume of water a full 125 feet in the air.<\/p>\n

And, of course, there are the many references to the Maori language. Honu is the Maori word for turtle, as in Honu and Ika Mona\u00a0multi-person raft rides.<\/p>\n

Maku means wet and Puihi is Maori for wild, making the names of the Maku\u00a0and\u00a0Puihi\u00a0round raft rides in the\u00a0Rain Forest Village understandable.<\/p>\n
