Don\u2019t get me wrong, I love the Food and Wine Festival, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/walt-disney-world\/planning\/events\/epcot-international-festival-of-the-arts\/food-studios-menus\/\">Festival of the Arts<\/a> is certainly growing on me, but this one is my jam. The topiaries, the weather, the smaller(ish) crowds\u2026the official beginning of Spring. I was able to sneak down for a couple days to be there for opening day of this year&#8217;s Epcot Flower and Garden Festival. I sampled over 40 plates in two days!! I was able to recruit a friend to help me a little, but for the most part, it was all me. The years of training have finally paid off.<\/p>\n<p>Ok, here we go. I\u2019ll start in the American Adventure (see, I do read my blog!), and head clockwise at this year&#8217;s Epcot Flower and Garden Festival. See you in Italy!<\/p>\n<h2>The Smokehouse&#8230;American Adventure<\/h2>\n<p><u>Burnt Ends and Pork Belly Slider<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0 Towering presentation with the house pickle and garlic sausage. The pork was fatty and juicy. I thought the beef was a little over done. Good sausage, great pickle. Nice little sandwich.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-60453\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_141845_852-1.jpg\" alt=\"slider\" width=\"480\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_141845_852-1.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_141845_852-1-320x400.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><u>Burnt Ends Hash<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0 Overall, this dish was better than last year. Still a small issue with the dryish brisket, but the taters and veggies were perfect. Love the cheddar sauce.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Hanami\u2026Japan<\/h2>\n<p><u>Ginger Beef Yakiudon<\/u>\u2026Definitely a must don\u2019t. Grey, stringy beef. Absolutely no flavor. The noodles were ok. Sad dish. Pass.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-60454\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_152840_901-1.jpg\" alt=\"yakiudon\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_152840_901-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_152840_901-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_152840_901-1-400x400.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><u>Teriyaki Salmon<\/u>\u2026Salmon was moist, which is hard to do in bulk. Good sauce. The rice was firm and seasoned well with nori and sesame. Pretty good dish.<\/p>\n<h2>Taste of Marrakesh\u2026Morocco<\/h2>\n<p><u>Harissa Chicken Kebob<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0 The cumin in this juicy and tender chicken smacks your taste buds in a good way. Excellent five bites. The cous cous is chilled, with dried fruit and chick peas. It\u2019s ok. The chicken is BOMB. Top few, maybe the best.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-60455\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_132330_137-1.jpg\" alt=\"kebob\" width=\"480\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_132330_137-1.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_132330_137-1-320x400.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><u>Fried Cauliflower<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0 Woefully under-seasoned, but crispy\u00a0 and not greasy at all. Loved the fried garlic, and the chile-ranch was a winner. Pretty good.<\/p>\n<h2>Florida Fresh<\/h2>\n<p><u>Blackened Shrimp and Cheddar Grits<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Always a winner. Well prepared shrimp. The grits are chewy and creamy, just like any good Southerner would make. Brown gravy was a huge hit, although there was a lot of it. Loved the sweet\/sour fresh corn. Top five dish.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-60456\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_132925_909.jpg\" alt=\"shrimp and grits\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_132925_909.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_132925_909-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IMG_20180228_132925_909-400x400.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><u>Carne Guisada<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The stewed beef here is seasoned and cooked just like Mom\u2019s, if your Mom grew up on the banks of the Rio Grande. The black bean cake soaks up everything nicely. The bonus is the lightly pickled diced tomatoes. More thyme and rosemary would have helped. Crispier crust too. Very pretty, very boring.<\/p>\n<p><u>Duck Confit with Parisienne Gnocchi<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This kitchen always nails the duck. Pillowy gnocchi were an excellent vehicle. The classic brown sauce was straw-worthy. Get. The. Macaron. Was it too chocolaty?? No way!! The same as last year. Stringy beef, weird cabbage, ok dressing. No thank you.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-60459\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/brisket.jpg\" alt=\"brisket\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/brisket.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/brisket-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/brisket-400x400.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><u>Potato and Cheddar Cheese Biscuit<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0 This biscuit is always delicious. The salmon is almost never good. Salty, never smoky, sometimes lemony. I can\u2019t recommend.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-60460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/salmon-bisquit.jpg\" alt=\"salmon bisquit\" width=\"536\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/salmon-bisquit.jpg 536w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/salmon-bisquit-357x400.jpg 357w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 536px) 100vw, 536px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Northern Bloom\u2026.Canada<\/h2>\n<p><u>Beef Tenderloin Tips<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 My beef was over cooked, but that can happen. Good mashers, decent Bordelaise, tender carrots. Middle of the pack.<\/p>\n<p><u>Seared Scallops<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0 Great sear and finish on the scallops, perfectly cooked. Crunchy green beans. Adorable baby potatoes. The brown butter vinaigrette made it sing. Very good dish. Top five.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-60461\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/scallop.jpg\" alt=\"scallop\" width=\"497\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/scallop.jpg 497w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/scallop-331x400.jpg 331w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>La Isla Fresca\u2026Showcase Plaza<\/h2>\n<p><u>Sugar Cane Shrimp Skewer<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0 Very nice shrimp portion. Coconut sauce needed salt, bad. Rice was very plain. No thank you.<\/p>\n<p><u>Caribbean Conch Salad<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I sooo wanted to like this dish. Conch was like leather. The veggies were decent. The addition of a crispy plantain cake helped, but not enough.<\/p>\n<h2>Berry Basket\u2026.Showcase Plaza<\/h2>\n<p><u>Lamb Chop<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0 Chop was perfectly seared. The gastrique was packed with berries, but needed salt (sensing a theme?) Quinoa salad was nutty and chewy, loved it. Pretty good entr\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p><u>Warm Berry Buckle<\/u>\u00a0\u00a0 Ok cake, ok berries. The Pepper Berry Gelato was as good an ice cream as I have had. Slow burn, sweet and cold finish.
