C<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rusty looks from flight attendants and broken fingernails from peeling those stickers off of windows led me to search for a better option. \u00a0Yep, these colorforms are the same ones that were around when you were a kid. \u00a0They still make them in all of the popular characters and fads. <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2yj2aQO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frozen<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2xYnaQN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cars<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2fGDlHN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Doc McStuffins<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2xYbAp1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marvel<\/a> &#8211; whatever your kids are into, they probably make it. \u00a0They are just as awesome as they always were. \u00a0Kids can stick them to the windows, doors, table tray, books, or the fun mat that comes with them, and they are super easy to peel off and reuse. \u00a0Plus you don&#8217;t end up looking like this: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-57151 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/IMG_3647JPG-339x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"159\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/IMG_3647JPG-339x400.jpg 339w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/IMG_3647JPG.jpg 508w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 159px) 100vw, 159px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2fGHTOd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Magna Doodles<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong> \u00a0They make these in a travel size for portability. \u00a0We like to play the drawing game, which works best if you have 2 children or an adult who is not driving! \u00a0The first person makes a mark on the screen; \u00a0it can be anything &#8211; a circle, a line, a zigzag. \u00a0The second person then has to turn it into something. \u00a0This is a great game for building creativity and imagination, and we play it alot even when we aren\u2019t traveling!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Cheerio Necklaces.<\/strong> \u00a0All you need for this activity is a snack bag full of cheerios, tape, \u00a0and some dental floss. \u00a0Cheap, easy, and doesn\u2019t take up much space! \u00a0Tear off a length of dental floss long enough to make a necklace or bracelet. \u00a0Make sure you leave enough room to for tying the ends. \u00a0Tape one end of the dental floss to any surface. \u00a0Your child can practice fine motor skills by threading the cheerios onto the dental floss. \u00a0Tie it off when they are done, and voila! \u00a0It is snack time! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u201cI\u2019m going to Disney\u2026\u201d game.<\/strong> \u00a0Start off by saying \u201cI\u2019m going to Disney, and I\u2019m going to take___________. \u00a0Do you want to come along?\u201d Fill in the blank with anything that starts with the letter A. \u00a0Apples, Ariel, asparagus, etc. \u00a0The next person has to follow the pattern, \u201cI\u2019m going to Disney, and I\u2019m going to take_____________.\u201d \u00a0If they fill in the blank with something that starts with the next letter of the alphabet, say, \u201cGreat! \u00a0You can come along!\u201d \u00a0If they don\u2019t pick something that starts with B, say \u201cSorry. \u00a0Maybe you can come next time.\u201d \u00a0If they do pick something that starts with the correct letter, say \u201cGreat! \u00a0Let\u2019s go!\u201d \u00a0Go on to the next player and keep going until either everyone has figured out the pattern or everyone is sick of the game. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42 \u00a0My daughter knows it is the alphabet game and we still play on long car trips. \u00a0Sometimes we pick a theme (animals, colors, songs, etc) and try to things to bring along that fit the theme. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Snacks.<\/strong> \u00a0Lots of them. \u00a0Hunger is the fastest way to create grumpy travelers. \u00a0We try to avoid sugary snacks because, well, have you seen my children after sugar consumption? \u00a0If you aren\u2019t sure what I mean, join your child\u2019s class for their school Halloween party this year. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of our favorite portable snacks include:<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* Applesauce pouches<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* Carrots\/Celery sticks<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* Gum\/Mints (not really a snack, but it keeps mouths busy for a bit!)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* Water bottles (for air travel, we take empty water bottles through security, then fill them up before boarding)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* Hard crunchies (Cereal, pretzels, nuts, crackers, popcorn)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* Puffs<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* Hard-boiled eggs<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* Fresh fruit (bananas, oranges, etc)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* Bars (protein, granola, fruit)<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* Dried fruit<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* Zollipops (lollipops made with xylitol, no sugar. \u00a0Bonus: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/lifestyles\/sc-zollipops-alina-morse-0606-20170530-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">They were created by a 9-year-old<\/a>!)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Distract-Little-Ones.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-57290\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Distract-Little-Ones-400x344.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"344\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Distract-Little-Ones-400x344.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Distract-Little-Ones.jpg 444w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Tiny Presents.<\/strong> \u00a0This doesn\u2019t need to be anything expensive or extravagant. \u00a0They are going to Disney, after all! \u00a0But I like to stash away a few tiny new toys (you can stock up at the dollar tree or Target\u2019s dollar spot for not much money!) Squinkies, card games, small plastic toys, Matchbox cars\u2026 I wrap them to make it more fun. \u00a0\u00a0Dish them out as prizes for winning a game, pass out one new one each hour, give one out when the troops start getting restless. \u00a0There are lots of options. \u00a0The one thing I do not recommend is giving all of them out at once. \u00a0I tried that when my daughter was 1 \u00bd; I got her a bag full of fun new toys. \u00a0She tore through them in the first five minutes and starting complaining that she was bored. \u00a0Dish them out slowly to keep the fun going. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-57130\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/IMG_5672JPG-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"304\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/IMG_5672JPG-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/IMG_5672JPG.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 304px) 100vw, 304px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Screens.<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0Stuck on an airplane in close quarters with 200 strangers, an iPad can be the difference between compliments about how well behaved your children are and flight attendants escorting you off of the plane. \u00a0Yes, we too try to limit screen time while we are at home. When your tiny person is unnaturally confined for extended periods of time, being both over- and under- stimulated, it is not the time to stick to those screen time rules. \u00a0We give our kids free screen reign when traveling. \u00a0I usually try to load a new movie, new apps, and new books onto my kids&#8217; kindles prior to traveling. \u00a0With so many great Disney flicks and apps to choose from, I\u2019m sure you will find some they will love.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2xzBXjR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Band-Aids<\/a>.<\/strong> \u00a0My kids have always loved bandaids. \u00a0\u00a0For Christmas when she was 2 I filled my daughter\u2019s Christmas stocking with different types of bandaids. \u00a0They love opening the package to see what fun colors and characters are waiting underneath. \u00a0Give each child a new box of band-aids (they have some great Disney kinds out there!) and let the fun begin: \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ort by character, size, picture, favorite to least favorite<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take a piece of paper and decorate with band-aids, or just put one band-aid on and draw the rest of the scene<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tell a story &#8211; what is happening with the character<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Band-aid Puppets &#8211; Put the band-aids on the tops of (pencils, popsicle sticks, etc) and act out a story<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Conversation.<\/strong> \u00a0Plan out your trip. \u00a0Ask the kids what they are most excited about, what they want to do on vacation. \u00a0Their answers might surprise you. \u00a0If you are headed to WDW, They might be more excited to swim in the Nemo pool or catch lizards at your hotel than to actually go to the theme parks. \u00a0Make sure you make time in your brilliantly planned trip for them to just be kids and enjoy the things they want to do. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Coloring Materials.<\/strong> \u00a0They make great little travel coloring sets, with a coloring book, crayons, and a few little stickers all in a package. \u00a0I\u2019ve purchased these in bulk for our many vacations, but to be honest, my kids aren\u2019t that into it. \u00a0They seem like a great idea, so I mention it here just in case they do work well for your kiddos. \u00a0But we usually end up dragging them to our destination and then dragging them home unopened. \u00a0My kids love to color at home, but on the go these just haven\u2019t been a huge hit. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-57134\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/DSC01733-2JPG-320x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"400\" 400;\"><strong>Stuffed Animal, Pillow, Blanket.<\/strong> \u00a0Kids adapt easily. \u00a0My kids will sleep just about anywhere, provided they have the magical sleep items they require. \u00a0Each child takes a backpack with a favorite stuffed animal, a small travel pillow, and their special blanket. \u00a0These really are essential, as rested children are happier children. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>I Spy.<\/strong> \u00a0My kids love to play I Spy. \u00a0\u201cI spy, with my little eye, something _____________.\u201d \u00a0The kids take turns guessing until they figure out what I was looking at. \u00a0It can be anything &#8211; trees, the steering wheel, clouds, etc. \u00a0Whoever guesses correctly gets to go next. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2xYMW7G\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Post-It Notes<\/a>.<\/strong> \u00a0Toddlers can have a field day sticking these to everything, and they come off easily. \u00a0Older kids can use them to draw, write, make origami. \u00a0Great versatile tool to keep in your purse for anytime you need a distraction. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Scavenger Hunt<\/strong>. \u00a0This can be a great way to get kids tuned into what is going on around them. \u00a0If the physical things aren\u2019t nearby, my daughter gets creative and finds them in books or on her kindle. \u00a0Some possible items to search for:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter something yellow. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">F<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ind someone who is humming. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find something soft.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find a bird.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find a hidden Mickey.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A great variation of this is a photo scavenger hunt, when the children have to capture photos of about megapixels or resolution, they just like pushing that button. \u00a0Bonus points if the device has editing or image enhancing capabilities so that they can play with the photos after they take it at home. \u00a0If not, your local library has a copy, and it is a great story to get kids thinking about where Flat Stanley could go next. \u00a0He has joined us on several trips to Disney World and on couple of cruises. \u00a0Flat Mickey joined us on our last cruise as well. \u00a0A quick google search will bring up dozens of templates for Flat Stanley that you can print out, color, and laminate for your next journey. \u00a0Having Stanley along gives your children a fun pal to take care of along the way, which helps make the travel time go a little faster. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p
