Feeling dizzy.<\/em> Theme park rides are designed to give us thrills, but what if\u00a0the fun collides with our fears?\u00a0When the cold sweat isn&#8217;t from the weather outside, know when to avoid a ride, and how to prepare traveling companions for what you might run into.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>Disclaimer:<\/strong><\/em> We&#8217;ll try to cover some common fears and places at Disneyland you might find them. It&#8217;s by no means a comprehensive list. The Mouse For Less has no liability of a spider pops up somewhere we didn&#8217;t warn you about!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Fear of snakes<\/strong><em> &#8212;\u00a0Ophidiophobia<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Attractions may include:\u00a0<em>Indiana Jones Adventure, Jungle Cruise, Aladdin musical,\u00a0Big Thunder Mountain.<\/em> The size\/proximity vary greatly &#8212; from the rattler you whiz by on Bug Thunder to the menacing snake on Indiana Jones.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Fear of spiders <\/strong>&#8212;\u00a0<em>Arachnophobia<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Creepy-crawly attractions:\u00a0<em>Indiana Jones Adventure, It&#8217;s Tough to be a Bug<\/em>. Frankly, all of It&#8217;s Tough to be a Bug will be difficult if you have insect-related concerns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Fear of heights <\/strong>&#8212;\u00a0<em>Acrophobia<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Worst attractions: <em>Tarzan\u2019s Treehouse, Splash Mountain, Flik\u2019s Flyers, Tower of Terror, Screamin&#8217;, Mickey\u2019s Fun Wheel, Goofy\u2019s Sky School, Jumpin Jellyfish<\/em>. Soarin&#8217; and\u00a0Peter Pan give the illusion of height but don&#8217;t get far off the ground. While any attraction that leaves the safety of the earth\u00a0could scare some, these are the most exposed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Fear of monsters\/skeletons\/ghosts<\/strong> <em>(no specific term)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Attractions include: <em>Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Matterhorn, Tower of Terror, Indiana Jones Adventure, Pirate&#8217;s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, Snow White&#8217;s Scary Adventures, Space Mountain (Ghost Galaxy version), Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sully to the Rescue<\/em>. This a wide-ranging group of fears that apply to\u00a0different rides\u00a0depending on what scares you!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Fear of enclosed spaces <\/strong><em>&#8212;\u00a0Claustrophobia\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Attractions: <em>Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, Casey Jr. Circus Train (enclosed cars)<\/em>. Other rides&#8217; restraints &#8212; like on Screamin&#8217; &#8212; might also trigger the &#8220;trapped&#8221; feeling that comes with claustrophobia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Fear of the dark<\/strong> &#8212; <em>Nyctophobia\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Very dark attractions include:\u00a0<em>Indiana Jones Adventure, Haunted Mansion,\u00a0Splash Mountain, any of the Fantasyland dark rides, Space Mountain, Tower of Terror, It&#8217;s Tough to be a Bug<\/em>. The duration and peril of the darkness varies widely. *Some attractions&#8217; queues honestly feel\u00a0darker than their rides.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Spinning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Attractions that revolve quickly:\u00a0<em>carousels, Roger Rabbit&#8217;s Car Toon Spin, Dumbo, Mad Tea Party, Astro Orbiter, Ladybug Boogie, Flik\u2019s Flyers, Mater&#8217;s Junkyard Jamboree, Silly Symphony Swings, Golden Zephyr<\/em>.\u00a0While perhaps\u00a0not a psychological\u00a0fear, if this motion troubles you, you&#8217;ll want to know which rides could\u00a0make you nauseated. Luckily most of these are obviously presented.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Fear of costumed characters<\/strong> &#8212; <em>Maskaphobia<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Areas to watch out for: <em>character meals, Jedi Training Academy (Darth Vader), parades, Fantasmic<\/em>. Most up-close character interactions can be easily avoided. Disney character performers are very good about not approaching a child that seems fearful.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><strong>Strategies:<\/strong><\/em> For these or any other phobias or concerns, research is your best friend. Watch ride-through videos on YouTube. Talk to friends who have been to Disneyland. The <a href=\"https:\/\/disneyland.disney.go.com\/attractions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disneyland website attractions page<\/a> allows you to filter by thrill level to avoid loud, scary, big drops, etc. Consider riding an attraction before taking a fearful friend (big or small).
