Mark one.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are many ways to travel the Rivers of America, but the way to travel in style is aboard the large paddle wheeler found on the river. \u00a0The <em>Mark Twain<\/em> and her sister, the <em>Liberty Belle<\/em>, are working reproductions of the workhorses of the old time Mississippi River.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Paddlewheeler-6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-40851\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Paddlewheeler-6-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"Paddlewheeler (6)\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Paddlewheeler-6-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Paddlewheeler-6.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The storytelling on these riverboats immerses you in the lore and legends of that mighty river. \u00a0Your captain acting as guide, you roll along the Rivers of America, passing Native Americans, forts, islands, wildlife, and other river craft. It\u2019s a relaxing few minutes in what can otherwise be a hectic day at Disney. \u00a0But these paddle wheelers offer a few lucky people another adventure \u2013 you can follow in the tracks of Samuel Clemens and pilot the riverboat as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark twain<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The fine print first: There are several constraints to keep in mind before you decide if trying to experience this adventure is for you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Only parties of 4 or less are taken \u2013 this is due to the confines of the pilothouse and the requirements of the captain\u2019s job while in the pilothouse.<\/li>\n<li>Each member of your party must be able to climb the steep stairs into the pilot house \u2013 unfortunately, these ships were not built with walking difficulties in mind (see below for more details).<\/li>\n<li>No guest pilots are accepted in rainy weather \u2013 when there is rain, the Texas Deck on the vessel is closed. \u00a0You must cross the Texas Deck to get to the pilothouse; therefore, no guests can pilot in the rain.<\/li>\n<li>Only a limited number of people can undertake this adventure each day \u2013 it is definitely a first come, first served experience. \u00a0Your mileage\u00a0may vary, but being polite and non-demanding may increase your chances of success.<\/li>\n<li>Disney reserves the right to refuse this option at any time \u2013 do not feel badly if you are refused,\u00a0there are many reason why they cannot take you at any time. \u00a0You can always try again later in the day or the next day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Half twain<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Paddlewheeler-7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-40852\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Paddlewheeler-7-297x400.jpg\" alt=\"Paddlewheeler (7)\" width=\"297\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Paddlewheeler-7-297x400.jpg 297w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Paddlewheeler-7.jpg 446w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 297px) 100vw, 297px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u00a0The Mark Twain, Disneyland<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Mark Twain<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You will travel a half mile in 14 minutes on this journey under steam power from the stern paddle wheel. \u00a0The vessel is a 5\/8<sup>th<\/sup> scale recreation of a 19<sup>th<\/sup> century sternwheeler found on the Mississippi River at the turn of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century. \u00a0Because steam powered paddlewheels were no longer relied on for transit of wares and people, in 1954 when Walt Disney wanted to build the <em>Mark Twain<\/em>, he and his imagineers had to reimagine how to make this vessel. It had been over 50 years since the last paddlewheeler had\u00a0been constructed in the US. \u00a0The <em>Mark Twain<\/em> is 105 feet long and 28 feet tall. \u00a0It can accommodate 300 guests on four decks (the Main Deck, the Promenade Deck, the Texas Deck, and the Pilothouse). \u00a0The riverboat was named after one of Walt Disney\u2019s personal heroes, Samuel Clemens, who is better known by his pen name, Mark Twain. \u00a0The maiden voyage was on July 13, 1955 as part of Walt and Lillian Disney\u2019s 30<sup>th<\/sup> wedding anniversary celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Paddlewheeler-8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-40838\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Paddlewheeler-8-226x400.jpg\" alt=\"Paddlewheeler (8)\" width=\"226\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Paddlewheeler-8-226x400.jpg 226w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Paddlewheeler-8.jpg 339w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 226px) 100vw, 226px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u00a0The Liberty Belle, Walt Disney World<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><strong><em>The Liberty Belle<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While on the <em>Liberty Belle<\/em>, you will travel a similar half mile in 17 minutes. \u00a0Like the <em>Mark Twain<\/em>, the <em>Liberty Belle<\/em> is a fully functional steam powered sternwheeler. \u00a0She is slightly larger than her sister being 113 feet long, 44 feet tall, and she can carry 450 guests. \u00a0She also has four decks. \u00a0She originally went into service as the <em>Richard F. Irvine<\/em> (named after one of the Disney executives) on\u00a0 May 20, 1973 but was renamed the <em>Liberty Belle<\/em> in 1996 when she came back from a major refurbishment. \u00a0She was the second riverboat to cruise on the Walt Disney World Rivers of America. \u00a0The other riverboat, the <em>Admiral Joe Fowler<\/em>, is no\u00a0longer active at Walt Disney World.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark three<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once you know your vessel, you are ready to try your hand at\u00a0piloting. \u00a0Firstly, you will need to get your party together. \u00a0As a unit, walk up to the Cast Member at the turnstile of the dock. \u00a0Ask nicely if they are taking guest pilots today and if it is possible for your group to participate. \u00a0This Cast Member will check with the pilot and let you know the availability. \u00a0You may be asked to wait for the next steaming or to come back at a different time of the day. Ultimately, it will come down to availability, weather, and the individual Cast Members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark four<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So, you have been given permission to undertake your piloting training. \u00a0The Cast Member will tell you where to wait and where to meet the Captain. \u00a0Ultimately, you will end up on the top deck of the riverboat (the Texas Deck) at a door that says, \u2018Private\u2019 (Mark Twain) or \u2018Captain\u2019s Quarters: Cast Members Only\u2019 (Liberty Belle). \u00a0 Behind this door is the Captain\u2019s personal quarters;
