{"id":33658,"date":"2014-06-24T06:40:54","date_gmt":"2014-06-24T10:40:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/?p=33658"},"modified":"2022-05-05T01:04:54","modified_gmt":"2022-05-05T05:04:54","slug":"beat-heat-walt-disney-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/beat-heat-walt-disney-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Beat the Heat at Walt Disney World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-33662 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Beat-the-Heat-400x250.jpg\" alt=\"Beat the Heat\" width=\"400\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Beat-the-Heat-400x250.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Beat-the-Heat.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The summer months are a popular time to visit Walt Disney World, but during the summer in Central Florida the heat and humidity can take a toll on travelers!\u00a0 We have always traveled to Walt Disney\u00a0World\u00a0during the hottest months of the year, and have learned how to best Beat the Heat!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Water!\u00a0 <\/strong>Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!\u00a0 Drink before you are thirsty.\u00a0 We bring water bottles in the parks and refill as needed.\u00a0 If you are staying on site, a grocery delivery service is a good option for buying water bottles.\u00a0 A filtered water bottle from home is another good option, though you can get free cups of ice water at any counter service location in the parks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Clothes\u00a0 <\/strong>I find clothes that cover skin, such as light loose-fitting carpis and t-shirts rather than shorts and tank tops, to be good because the sun is not directly hitting the skin.\u00a0 Remember to wear hats and sunglasses for sun protection.\u00a0 There are neck cooler bandannas, but my family did not care for having those on our necks.\u00a0 I have seen other people use the bandannas.\u00a0 Also, a mister fan on a lanyard can be a way to keep cool in the parks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Quick Relief in the Parks\u00a0 <\/strong>If there is shade on one side of a pathway, walk in the shade!\u00a0 Cut through stores to get a quick blast of air conditioning.\u00a0 Get wet on water rides such as Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain.\u00a0 If you\u2019re near a water play area such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/disneyworld.disney.go.com\/attractions\/magic-kingdom\/casey-jr-splash-n-soak-station\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Casey Jr. Splash &#8216;N&#8217; Soak Station<\/a> in Fantasyland, go ahead and get a little wet!\u00a0 In the heat of the afternoon, take in attractions that have seats and air conditioning.\u00a0 Take breaks from walking in the heat by doing The Hall of Presidents or the Tiki Room in the Magic Kingdom, the Universe of Energy or American Adventure in Epcot, One Man\u2019s Dream in Hollywood Studios, or Finding Nemo: The Musical or Festival of the Lion King in Animal Kingdom.\u00a0 Spend the afternoons, the hottest part of the day, doing relaxing shows and the 3-D movies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ice Cream!\u00a0 <\/strong>Nothing hits the spot like ice cream on a hot day!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-33665 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Disney-Ice-Cream-400x200.jpg\" alt=\"Disney Ice Cream\" width=\"400\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Disney-Ice-Cream-400x200.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Disney-Ice-Cream.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Take a break from the Parks\u00a0 <\/strong>Consider going back to your resort for a mid-day swim! \u00a0An alternative of taking a swim break from the parks is to have lunch at a nearby resort.\u00a0 For example, if you want to take a break from the heat in the Magic Kingdom, take the monorail over to the Contemporary Resort, Grand Floridian Resort, or Polynesian Resort.\u00a0 You can plan ahead for this break with an Advanced Dining Reservation for lunch, or just enjoy a long quick service meal in a resort food court that is tucked away from the heat and crowds.\u00a0 We enjoy having lunch at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/walt-disney-world\/dining\/menus\/contempo-cafe-menu\/\">Contempo Caf\u00e9<\/a>, where we can watch the monorail come and go as we eat in the comfort of air conditioning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Take a day off from the Parks\u00a0 <\/strong>A day at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/walt-disney-world\/parks\/typhoon-lagoon\/\">Typhoon Lagoon<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/walt-disney-world\/parks\/blizzard-beach\/\">Blizzard Beach<\/a> is relaxing and a good way to keep cool!\u00a0 An alternative is a pool day at your resort, with a visit to Downtown Disney.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t be afraid to change plans if needed \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>When my kids were about eight and six years old, we had an exceptionally hot day at Hollywood Studios.\u00a0 We did the right thing by returning to Pop Century for a mid-day break, and then we went back to the park for our Fantasmic Dinner Package at Mama Melrose\u2019s.\u00a0 I took a good look at the kids during dinner, and saw that they were still lethargic from the morning\u2019s heat.\u00a0 I asked them if they\u2019d rather stay for Fantasmic as we had planned to do, or if they\u2019d rather just go back to the resort to swim.\u00a0 Their faces instantly lit up at the word \u201cswim!\u201d\u00a0 Our server arranged for another family to use our Fantasmic passes, and after dinner we went straight back to our resort where the kids spent a happy few hours splashing around in the Hippy Dippy Pool.\u00a0 I know that Fantasmic would have been good to do, but in the greater scheme of things everyone was smiling and happy that evening and we made a great vacation memory with our pool time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sunscreen\u00a0 <\/strong>I saved the most important item for last.
