Let\u2019s look back at Disney Parks history in the month on March. March of 1972 brought an expansion to Disneyland: Bear country! It opened this month bring to the park the <i>Country Bear Jamboree<\/i>, The Mile Long Bar, <i>Teddi Barra\u2019s Swingin\u2019 Arcade<\/i>, and Ursus H. Bear\u2019s Outpost. March also brought several other rides to Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland. It also brought us the latest addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the <i>Disney Fantasy<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>March 1, 1986 &#8211; The Safari Outpost shop opens in Adventureland at Disneyland.<\/p>\n<p>March 1, 1996 \u2013 Disney\u2019s Hilton Head Island Resort (a Disney Vacation Club Resort) opens in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>March 1, 2012 \u2013 The <i>Disney Fantasy<\/i> cruise ship is christened by Mariah Carey in New York.<\/p>\n<p>March 2, 2009 \u2013 Construction begins on two new Disney Cruise Line ships at the Meyer-Werft ship yards in Papenburg, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>March 3, 1995 \u2013 <i>The Indiana Jones Adventure \u2013 Temple of the Forbidden Eye<\/i> attraction officially opens in Adventureland at Disneyland, and opened to the general public the following day. (I actually remember standing in line for this a few months after it opened. The line ran pretty much though most of the park and took several hours to get through.)<\/p>\n<p>March 5, 1983 \u2013 The <i>Journey Into Imagination<\/i> attraction opens in Epcot at Walt Disney World.<\/p>\n<p>March 8, 1986 \u2013 The <i>Alice\u2019s Tea Party<\/i> attraction opens at Tokyo Disneyland. This would be the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Disney Park to get the popular spinning teacup ride and there is currently one in all 5 of the Disney parks\/resorts worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>March 9, 1985 \u2013 The <i>Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade<\/i> premiers at Tokyo Disneyland.<\/p>\n<p>March 15, 1987 \u2013 The Pickett Suites Resort hotel opens on Lake Buena Vista at Walt Disney World. After a series of company buyouts it is currently known as the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Orlando.<\/p>\n<p>March 17, 1999 \u2013 The <i>Test Track<\/i> attraction officially opens to the public in Future World at Epcot. It had an original \u201csoft opening\u201d in December 1998, but experienced several problems and closures before its official opening.<\/p>\n<p>March 17, 2005 \u2013 The <i>Buzz LightYear\u2019s AstroBlasters<\/i> ride officially opens in Tomorrowland at Disneyland following a soft opening the week before.<\/p>\n<p>March 18, 1967 \u2013 The Blue Bayou Restaurant opens in New Orleans Square at Disneyland. The <i>Prates of the Caribbean<\/i> attraction also had a soft opening around this date, but Disney lists the official opening of the ride in April.<\/p>\n<p>March 21, 1975 \u2013 The <i>Mission to Mars<\/i> attraction opened in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.<\/p>\n<p>March 23, 1969 \u2013 The first \u201cHerbie Day\u201d was held at Disneyland.\u00a0 The day\u2019s festivities included a car decorating contest (VW Bugs of course) and the finalists in the contest would be featured in a parade in the park.<\/p>\n<p>March 23, 2003 \u2013 The <i>Main Street Electrical Parade<\/i> in Disneyland Paris makes it final run. Similar versions of this parade still run at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World and in Tokyo Disneyland.<\/p>\n<p>March 25, 1986 \u2013 The 500 millionth guest to enter a Disney Park is welcomed into Walt Disney World.<\/p>\n<p>March 26, 1994 \u2013 The \u201cFood Rocks\u201d show opens in The Land Pavilion at Epcot. It was designed to be a concert style show that promoted good nutrition.<\/p>\n<p>March 27, 2010 \u2013 The <i>Villians Tonight!<\/i> live musical stage show premiers aboard the Disney Magic cruise ship.<\/p>\n<p>March 28, 1958 \u2013 The #3 Disneyland train, the <i>Fred Gurley<\/i>, begins operation on the Disneyland Railroad.<\/p>\n<p>March 30, 2003 \u2013 The First Walt Disney World Inline Skating Marathon takes place.
