January has had its fair share of ride\/attraction closings, but it also brought us the openings of Mickey\u2019s Toontown and the Downtown Disney area at Disneyland! Enjoy this look back at Disney Parks in January!<\/p>\n<p>January 1, 1973 \u2013 The original \u201cGreat Moments with Mr. Lincoln\u201d closes on Main Street in Disneyland. (This attraction would later reopen and has gone through several changes over the years).<\/p>\n<p>January 2, 1996 \u2013 \u201cThe World of Motion\u201d ride in Future World at EPCOT closes. This is now the current location of the \u201cTest Track\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>January 2, 2001 \u2013 The Grand Californian Hotel opens as part of the newly expanded Disneyland Resort. It currently has 1,019 rooms and 44 suites. It also boasts its own park entrance for Disney California Adventure.<\/p>\n<p>January 3, 1994 \u2013 The \u201cKitchen Kaberet\u201d show in The Land Pavilion at EPCOT closes. It was a 13-minute audio-animatronics show focused on healthy eating.<\/p>\n<p>January 6, 1997 \u2013 The \u201cRocket Jets\u201d ride in Tomorrowland at Disneyland closes.<\/p>\n<p>January 7, 1992 \u2013 \u201cThe Voyage of the Little Mermaid\u201d a live action and puppetry stage show opens at Disney\u2019s Hollywood Studios.<\/p>\n<p>January 8, 1962 \u2013 The Chicken Plantation Restaurant located in Frontierland at Disneyland closes. The building is torn down to make room for the building of New Orleans Square.<\/p>\n<p>January 8, 1981 \u2013 Gert Schelvis is welcomed at Disneyland\u2019s 200-millionth guest.<\/p>\n<p>January 9, 1987 \u2013 \u201cStar Tours\u201d officially opens in Tomorrowland at Disneyland. It was the first attraction that was based on a non-Disney produced film.<\/p>\n<p>January 11, 1990 \u2013 As part of Disneyland\u2019s 35<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary celebration, the \u201cParty Gras Parade\u201d begins running.<\/p>\n<p>January 12, 2001 \u2013 Downtown Disney (a \u201cshoppertainment\u201d center) opens at the Disneyland Resort in California. Shops\/restaurants open at the time: Caf\u00e9 Catal Restaurant, La Brea Bakery, The Naples Ristorante and Pizzeria, The Rainforest Caf\u00e9, ESPN Zone, The Ralph Brennan&#8217;s Jazz Kitchen restaurant, The Y Arriba Y Arriba restaurant, and The House of Blues nightclub.<\/p>\n<p>January 12, 2003 \u2013 The official ground breaking ceremony is held for Hong Kong Disneyland.<\/p>\n<p>January 13, 1990 \u2013 The Walt Disney World Swan resort hotel opens in Walt Disney World.<\/p>\n<p>January 15, 1970 \u2013 The \u201cLegacy of Walt Disney\u201d exhibit opens on Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland. It features various awards of memorabilia of Walt Disney.<\/p>\n<p>January 15, 1975 \u2013 \u201cSpace Mountain\u201d opens in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.<\/p>\n<p>January 15, 1986 \u2013 \u201cThe Living Seas\u201d attraction opens in Future World at Epcot.<\/p>\n<p>January 15, 1990 \u2013 Michael Eisner (then-CEO of Disney) announces plans to expand Walt Disney World, with the addition of a fourth park sometime within the decade.<\/p>\n<p>January 15, 1999 \u2013 The All-Star Movies resort hotel opens in Walt Disney World.<\/p>\n<p>January 18, 1958 \u2013 The Ken-L Land Pet Motel (sponsored by Ken-L Ration Dog Foods) opens at Disneyland.<\/p>\n<p>January 21, 1956 \u2013 The American Dairy Association exhibit and the \u201cDairy Bar\u201d food location opens in Tomorrowland at Disneyland. The exhibit featured possible future technology to be used in the production and distribution of dairy products, one display even showed the \u201cmilkman of tomorrow\u201d who travelled around in a helicopter style flying contraption.<\/p>\n<p>January 24, 1993 \u2013 Mickey\u2019s Toontown opens in Disneyland. Attractions include: Mickey\u2019s House, Minnie\u2019s House, Daisy\u2019s Diner, Acorn Ball Crawl, Gaget\u2019s Go Coaster, Jolly Trolley ride, Donald\u2019s Boat, the Gag Factory, Pluto\u2019s Dog House, Goofy\u2019s Bounce House, Goofy\u2019s Gas Station, Chip &amp; Dale\u2019s Tree House, and the Five &amp; Dime shop.<\/p>\n<p>January 26, 1994 \u2013 \u201cRodger Rabbit\u2019s Car Toon Spin\u201d ride opens in Mickey\u2019s Toontown at Disneyland.<\/p>\n<p>January 26, 2011 \u2013 The <i>Disney Dream<\/i> cruise ship begins its maiden voyage, leaving Port Canaveral, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>January 27, 1996 \u2013 The \u201cToy Story Funhouse\u201d opens in Tomorrowland at Disneyland. It was a temporary attraction that closed before the summer of that same year.<\/p>\n<p>January 28, 1982 \u2013 Wally Boag gives his last performance in the \u201cGolden Horseshoe Review\u201d at Disneyland.
