Today I was supposed to go horseback riding, however I was not feeling well so I\u00a0 decided to try to sleep in.\u00a0 My roommate headed off for the ride and sleep was beckoning, however it was not to be.\u00a0 This is a place where things\u00a0 start early, and people are out and about, and finally at 9am I gave up and\u00a0 pulled myself together as I felt like I was messing up the housekeeper’s schedule as I was in the room.\u00a0 I missed breakfast and didn’t find any coffee\u00a0 anywhere–nor did I ask–so I worked for a while.\u00a0 Finally people came in\u00a0 from their morning activities of hiking, fly fishing and riding, and lunch was\u00a0served.<\/div>\n
Lunch was great–and the chef here is wonderful!\u00a0\u00a0 Portions are quite generous, and no one should go hungry.\u00a0 I had a kobe\u00a0 beef burger for lunch and dessert was a carrot cake cupcake with divine cream\u00a0 cheese frosting.\u00a0 It was delicious.<\/div>\n

After lunch I waited in the\u00a0 lobby to see if the afternoon ride would go on as scheduled.\u00a0 There were some weather issues at the lower elevations (it was snowing up here\u00a0 for a while) and they wouldn’t take us riding if it was raining.\u00a0 Finally\u00a0 the manager made the call that there would not be any riding because of safety\u00a0 for the horses, and the riders.\u00a0 Although I was disappointed that I didn’t\u00a0 ride, the bigger picture is the safety aspect.<\/div>\n
In lieu of riding\u00a0 he offerred to take us on a hike–at a lower elevation because there’s just so\u00a0 much snow up here.\u00a0 We headed down to about 8000 feet to another mountain\u00a0 and parked, and started walking up.\u00a0 Most of us were huffing and puffing\u00a0 because of the altitude.\u00a0 It really wasn’t a steep incline, but we were\u00a0 feeling the thinner air.\u00a0 We saw mule deer and elk, and I really wanted to\u00a0 see a bear.\u00a0 Our guide did bring bear spray, but alas, no bear.\u00a0 After\u00a0 about an hour we headed back to the van and went back to the lodge.<\/div>\n

There was a bit of time before dinner so I decided to go outside and take some\u00a0 photos.\u00a0 As I walked towards the lake I saw a patch of grass, and then I\u00a0 realized that there’s four feet of snow, and its melting (which is why I saw the\u00a0 grass) and right at that point I crashed through.\u00a0 Ended up in snow almost\u00a0 waist deep, and unfortunately I had quite a bit of work to do to get to an area\u00a0 which would support me.\u00a0 It was a lot of effort to get out of all that snow, but I made it–however I was\u00a0 wet from the waist down.\u00a0 Headed back to the room and found the laundry,\u00a0 and threw in a load as I didn’t want to return home with wet\u00a0 clothes.<\/div>\n
Dinner was a short time after I came in, and again it was\u00a0 another delicious meal.\u00a0 This was the “Farewell Dinner”.\u00a0 Dessert was\u00a0 served in the lobby, and then we were told to go back to the dining room for a\u00a0 photo presentation\/slide show by our guides.\u00a0 It was a nice time.\u00a0\u00a0 Then back to the lobby for board games (my friends played Clue, but I just\u00a0 watched for a bit.)\u00a0 I decided to go back to my room and pack as I’m trying\u00a0 to stay under 50 pounds or I would pay overweight luggage fees with the\u00a0 airline.\u00a0 Was in bed by midnight.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
