The deconstruction of a beloved piece of the Walt Disney World Resort is clearly not as magical as the construction.\u00a0 As photos of the Fantasyland expansion project have been popping up all over the internet, I have found myself captivated.\u00a0 When you see the pictures of beloved rides being taken down, however, it just seems wrong.<\/p>\n
I remember when the Sorcerer\u2019s hand and wand were perched on top of Spaceship Earth in Epcot.\u00a0 It was so beautiful and amazing to see and I took many pictures during my trip there at the time.\u00a0 When that all came down?\u00a0 It was just plain depressing.<\/p>\n
Now as the saying goes \u201cRome wasn\u2019t built in a day\u201d and I get it; the same things goes for the rides and attractions at Disney.\u00a0 Unfortunately, when you are there on vacation, nothing can kill the moment more than watching a little piece of the park\u2019s history being torn down.\u00a0 When a ride gets refurbished, it\u2019s mostly interior.\u00a0 Walls go up on the front of the attraction and you don\u2019t see the mess and the destruction.\u00a0 In the recent case of Dumbo in the Magic Kingdom, the photos that I saw made me want to cry \u2013 especially when it was just down to the skeleton of the ride.\u00a0 It made it seem like nothing more than a cheap carnival ride.<\/p>\n

With all of the \u201cmagic\u201d that goes with Disney, I have to ask the question:\u00a0 Why don\u2019t they do more of this at night?\u00a0 Or maybe why do they leave it out in the open during the day would be a better question.\u00a0 I can remember on one trip there was a giant crane set up next to Cinderella\u2019s castle.\u00a0 When the photographer on Main Street stopped to ask us if we wanted our picture taken we asked her if the crane would be Photoshopped out of the picture.\u00a0 She had a puzzled look on her face and said \u201cNo\u201d.\u00a0 Excuse me, but WHY would I want a picture of me in front of the wonderful Cinderella\u2019s castle with a stinking crane next to it?\u00a0 That\u2019s not magical at all!<\/p>\n
When other rides get refurbished, it\u2019s mostly hidden.\u00a0 When rides are being built, there is a wall erected up around it or in front of it so that the unveiling will be a surprise.\u00a0 Isn\u2019t there a way to do this when rides come down?\u00a0 Nothing is sadder than watching a beloved ride come down.\u00a0 Poor Dumbo.\u00a0 Poor Sorcerer\u2019s wand.\u00a0 I don\u2019t mind when I can\u2019t see the destruction or deconstruction but when it\u2019s right there in your face it just takes the shine off of the trip.<\/p>\n
Have you ever had a \u201cnon magical\u201d Disney experience where you saw some of the rides come down?\u00a0 Do you watch it in wonder or did it make you sad to see a little bit of history disappear?\u00a0 I think I would still photograph it but I\u2019d have a hard time just moving on\u2026sigh.<\/p>\n
