{"id":16903,"date":"2012-03-05T12:05:44","date_gmt":"2012-03-05T17:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/?p=16903"},"modified":"2022-05-05T13:52:03","modified_gmt":"2022-05-05T17:52:03","slug":"rehabs-refurbishing-and-special-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.themouseforless.com\/blog_world\/rehabs-refurbishing-and-special-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Rehabs, Refurbishing and Special Events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The expansion of Fantasyland.\u00a0 Soap Opera Weekend.\u00a0 Star Wars Weekend.\u00a0 Big Thunder Mountain closed for refurbishment.\u00a0 Tutto Italia in the Italy pavilion closed for refurbishment.\u00a0 Fantasmic in Hollywood Studios temporarily closed.<\/p>\n<p>These are just a few of the closing\/rehabs\/special events planned for the coming year at the Walt Disney World Resort.\u00a0 What do each of these mean to you in terms of how\/when you plan your trip?\u00a0 My family, for example, really enjoys going to Walt Disney World during the first two weeks of December.\u00a0 We love the Christmas decorations and all that goes with it.\u00a0 We skipped a possible earlier trip one year because Space Mountain was going to be closed.\u00a0 On another note, we chose to not go during big-attendance events like Star Wars weekend or Soap Opera weekend because we didn\u2019t want to deal with the large crowds.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m still a \u201cvalue\u201d season or \u201coff\u201d season traveler at heart.<\/p>\n<p>Are you one of the masses that thrive on being part of a big ticket or high attendance event at Disney?\u00a0 Did you run in the marathons?\u00a0 Were you there in the Magic Kingdom on the same day as our president?\u00a0 I tend to avoid these things like the plague, although we have attended Mickey\u2019s Very Merry Christmas Party several times and were pleasantly surprises by how UNcrowded it was.<\/p>\n<p>While I\u2019ll admit that when I start to plan a trip, I don\u2019t look at ride closings and refurbishments right away; I probably should.\u00a0 There are certain rides that, should they be closed, we would miss immensely and our trip would somehow seem less than perfect without them.\u00a0 This is why we had to re-think the no Space Mountain deal.\u00a0 We\u2019re big fans of Big Thunder Mountain and the thought of it being closed for several months would be a real bummer to miss out on.<\/p>\n<p>With the expansion of Fantasyland, however, I find myself postponing making any vacation plans until that is open.\u00a0 It\u2019s funny because I no longer have small children; they are 12 and 20 and yet the thought of a new and improved Fantasyland thrills us all!\u00a0 Personally, the thought of going in the Beast\u2019s castle is almost more than I can stand; I\u2019m so excited by it!\u00a0 The magic and excitement of seeing something at Disney for the first time is just as awe inspiring to me as the feeling that I still get when I walk down Main Street U.S.A.\u00a0 It\u2019s a feeling that only Disney can inspire.<\/p>\n<p>We were there during the 100 Years of Magic celebration (even there on Walt\u2019s actual birthday!), we went during the Year of a Million Dreams\u2026all during the off-season.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been to Epcot and Animal Kingdom in their opening years.\u00a0 We do participate in the Extra Magic Hours and we try to book during the free dining offers.\u00a0 For the most part, we are traveling creatures of habit; we know what we like and we stick to it.\u00a0 We\u2019ve never been in Disney for the grand opening of anything.<\/p>\n<p>So how do you feel about special events, closings and rehabs?\u00a0 Do they truly affect your vacation plans or do you just plan your trip and whatever comes with it is fine with you?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The expansion of Fantasyland.\u00a0 Soap Opera Weekend.\u00a0 Star Wars Weekend.\u00a0 Big Thunder Mountain closed for refurbishment.\u00a0 Tutto Italia in the Italy pavilion closed for refurbishment.\u00a0 Fantasmic in Hollywood Studios temporarily closed.
