Not long ago, Epcot got rid of the incredibly dated Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable. Now, most were fine with the dated film being removed, however my husband was not one of them. He very much enjoyed the story that was told by Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa. Today, I can let him (and also you all) know there there will be a brand new film for us to be able to catch in the theater in The Land Pavilion where the Circle of Life show formerly took place.
Disney has announced that the new film will be called Awesome Planet and it will be an on-screen exploration of the place we call home. The film will showcase the beauty, diversity and dynamic story of our earth. With spectacular nature photography, immersive in-theater effects, and space sequences created by Industrial Light & Magic, Awesome Planet will deliver an environmental message that will resonate with park Guests.
There is currently no word on when this film will officially debut.
This new film heralds a bold new era for a theme park that is distinctly Disney in its view of the earth, its lands and its people. As a reminder, this isn’t the only new film for the park. Also announced as changes coming to the films of Epcot are a new Circle-Vision film for the China Pavilion, updates to the film at the Canada Pavilion, and the “Beauty and the Beast” Sing-Along coming to the France Pavilion. Other big changes coming to Epcot include the new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, a new Play Pavilion, and a newly updated entrance for the park.
