Coming as no real big surprise, runDisney has announced that the 2021 Star Wars Rival Run Weekend will now be a virtual event. The event was scheduled to take place from April 15-18, 2021. This is due to concerns of events like these bringing in large crowds. In these uncertain times, runDisney is looking to make sure that they keep everyone safe.
All is not lost though. Disney has decided to offer Guests the opportunity to run the Star Wars Rival Run Weekend races virtually. Runners can choose to run around their neighborhoods, a local track, etc. Those who choose the virtual option will still be able to receive a medal for each distance they complete and a race shirt. Those who previously had registered for the event will be receiving an email with instructions on how to proceed. That email will be sent by December 18, 2020.
For those who would rather not want to run the race virtually you will also have the option of receiving a full refund for the race. That is if you registered with runDisney. Refunds can be expected to be processed within six to eight weeks.
Disney also made the big announcement that changes are in store for the Star Wars runDisney Weekend. For 2022, this event’s theming will be re-imagined. New details will be shared at a later date.
Update for Future runDisney events
A number of runDisney races have been run virtually over the past year. It all started with last year’s Star Wars Rival Run Weekend. As far as future races are concerned, Disney is looking at every aspect of the runDisney experience. They state that they are making decisions with the safety and well-being of the athletes, volunteers, Cast Members and Guests at the forefront of the planning process. At this time, there are no further updates regarding any future runDisney events.
