MagicBand+ Now Available at Walt Disney World

It’s here!  MagicBand+ has officially be spotted at Walt Disney World! Currently located at World of Disney in Disney Springs, it’s likely that this brand new and updated version of MagicBand technology will be rolling out to other merchandise locations relatively soon throughout the resort. (Edit: Well, apparently they won’t be rolling out QUITE as soon as we thought because apparently these were released early on accident. But they are coming!)

What Does the New MagicBand+ Do?

MagicBand+

This new MagicBand+ features many updated technological advances over the previous version of MagicBand. But don’t worry, this new version will still feature all the previous version’s perks. Guests will still have a more convenient and hands-free experience. This will include things like park and guest room entry, retail and dining, Disney PhotoPass and more.

But there are some other changes with this new MagicBand+. For example, after you enter a theme park, this new device will come alive at various times with color-changing lights, haptic vibrations and gesture recognition. In addition, it was previously shared that with this new wearable, you’ll be able to engage in the parks in new ways, including:

  • Play like a bounty hunter in a galaxy far, far away and find virtual bounties throughout Black Spire Outpost in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
  • Interact with the “Disney Fab 50 Character Collection,” the golden sculptures spread throughout the Walt Disney World theme parks.
  • Experience nighttime spectaculars in a new way as you see your band light up and complement the magic in the skies, including the new “Harmonious” at EPCOT and “Disney Enchantment” at Magic Kingdom.

MagicBand+ Basics

Here are a few things to know about these new MagicBand+ devices.

First, much like the previous version, the new version still allows Guests the option of two different sizes in one. There is the ability to peel the band and make it a little smaller to fit small wrists.

This MagicBand+ is also rechargeable and comes with a charging cable that connects to a USB plug.

Oh and it’s also apparently connectable to Amazon Alexa! This will likely come in handy with Hey, Disney! which is coming to the Disney Resort Hotels later this year.

MagicBand+ currently costs $29.95, but there is an Annual Passholder discount, which brings it down to $24.95. In addition, Guests who are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort will also be able to pay a discounted, pre-arrival price.

For those who have current MagicBands, don’t worry. Your current MagicBand will still work! So will the Disney MagicMobile service for smart devices.

MagicBands were introduced in 2013 and they changed the game for a Walt Disney World vacation. They changed how we do everything, from enter the park, access attractions, pay for dining, and more. It will be interesting to find out how this new version will continue to change how we vacation in the parks and at the resorts.
