Disney MYW Tickets: Choices, Choices, Choices
Disney offers an array of admission ticket choices. Tickets can include multiple number
of days (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10 days), Park Hopping options, admission to additional minor
parks and attractions, and come with or without expiration dates. Each of these options will increase the cost of the ticket. While sticking with a Base Magic Your Way ticket can be a great way to save, depending on what you would like to do on your vacation, it may or may not be the most economical or convenient choice. Read on to learn how to purchase Walt Disney World tickets that will work the best for your vacation.
A Base one-day, one park Magic Your Way (MYW) ticket, starts at $85 ($90.53 w/tax) per adult and $79 ($84.14 w/tax) per child (ages 3 -9), and days and options can be added from there. Base tickets may only be used to enter one park per day, no matter what length of stay they have been purchased for. To see the price for MYW Base Tickets, 1 through 10 days, visit our Ticket Calculator page. All MYW Base tickets expire 14 days from first use (day one plus an additional 13 consecutive days).
Ticket Add-on Options
Park Hopper Option
For another $55 ($58.58 including tax) park hopping can be added to any multi-day MYW Base ticket, allowing guests to visit several Walt Disney World theme parks each day. Park Hopping can also be added to a 1-day MYW Base ticket for just $35 ($37.28 including tax). A guest with a MYW Base ticket can not use multiple days of that ticket to enter two or more parks on the same day. Once the ticket's information is stored in Disney's system while passing through the turnstile, that ticket will not allow admittance at another park on the same day, unless the ticket includes the Park Hopper option.
There are several reason why purchasing the Park Hopper option might be desirable. First, with Disney offering the Disney Dining Plan as part of it's vacation packages, and making Free Dining available for at least a few months each year, accessibility to a wider variety of dining choices has become more important than ever before. One park per day can limit dining options for those on Disney's Dining Plan looking for at least one new table service restaurant to try each day. Purchasing the Park Hopper option adds the flexibility to choose any park restaurant, without having to spend the entire day in that particular park. Secondly, park hopping can extend the hours guests actually get to spend in the parks. A park like Animal Kingdom that typically closes by 5 pm each day, could leave a family wishing to go to Disney's Hollywood Studios in the evening to see Fantasmic!. There are many other instances where the Park Hopper option could add flexibility and extra value to a family's vacation, and it's something to consider when planing your vacation and purchasing tickets. Below are some reasons to purchase a park hopper as well as a few in which you might want to skip it.
Consider a Park Hopper if ...
• Your trip is three days or less and you wish to see all of the parks.
• You're traveling in a large group (or with teenagers) and feel your family may want to split up at times to pursue different interests.
• You're on the Disney Dining Plan and want flexibility to eat at a wide range of park restaurants (Epcot has an abundance of restaurant choices).
• You're staying on Disney property and the convenience of returning to your resort in the afternoon for a nap or swim and then visiting a different park in the evenings sounds great! This is particularly desirable if your resort is only a short walk or monorail ride from one of Disney's theme parks.
• You're going to Disney World during peak or holiday season when several of the parks are open quite late and there is lots of time for park hopping; and, with the crowd levels being what they are, you may just "want" to switch parks.
Skip the a Park Hopper if ...
• You need to cut cost and/or your vacation is at least a week or longer giving you plenty of time to see all of the parks.
• You're using Disney Transportation & spending an hour or more to switch parks doesn't appeal to you.
• You have young children (or seniors along) who need their sleep and you won't be spending long hours in the park.
• You've planned your trip during Value Season when several of the parks close quite early and time for park hopping can be limited.
• The parks are great, but you also want to spend a significant portion of your vacation, lounging by the pool, golfing, shopping and playing at Downtown Disney, visiting the water parks or seeing some of the other Orlando sights.
Water Park Fun & More Option
Park visitors who have children may want to visit the Disney water parks several times in one vacation. With a water park admission price of $43.67 per child (includes tax), buying a Water Park Fun & More Option option can save such a family money. For $55 ($58.58 w/tax), guests can add the Water Park Fun & More option to any MYW ticket. This option allows two to ten visits (depending on the number of days on the Base ticket) to your choice of Disney’s Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, DisneyQuest, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, or a round of golf at Oak Trail gold course. Options can be used in any combination. One and two day MYW tickets will each have two options; all other tickets will have one option for each ticket-day. For example a 3-day ticket has 3 options and an 7-day ticket has 7 options. Since the Water Park Fun & More option costs a flat rate, the longer the length of the ticket, the more value you get for your money. You'll have 14 days from the first use of your MYW ticket to use your options, irregardless of the length of stay of your ticket, and options don't have to be used the same day you use a park admission. The cost of individual options if purchased separately by the day are below:
- Water Park: $43.67 (child, 3-9 w/tax) / $52.19 (adult w/tax)
- DisneyQuest: $39.41 (child, 3-9 w/tax) / $45.80 (adult w/tax)
- ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex: $9.95 (child, 3-9 w/tax) / $14.43 (adult w/tax)
- Oak Trail Golf (varies by time & season): $10 - $20 (junior) / $19 - $38 (adult)
The cost of adding both the Park Hopper option and Water Park Fun & More option to a multi-day MYW Base ticket of any length is $110 ($117.15 including tax) flat rate.
Just remember that you have only 14 days for the first use of your ticket to use all of your park admissions and all of your water park & fun options. If you'll be vacationing for nine days and have added the "Water Park Fun & More Option" to an 9 day park ticket, you'll have a total of 18 combined park admissions plus water park, Disney Quest, etc admissions and only 14 days to use them all. So while adding the option to a longer length ticket might prove a difficult task to take advantage off, if you'll being visiting several of the water parks and Disney Quest, it's a good deal even if you can't use them all!
Note: Admission to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex does not include admission to many of the sporting events that take place there. For example, admission to the Atlanta Braves spring training games is a separately tickets event. You may, however, be able to view some amateur and children athletic events during your visit. Visit Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports web site to see what events may be taking place during your vacation.
NO Expiration Option
MYW tickets expire 14 days from first use--day one starting the count. Disney also offers a "NO Expiration" option that can be added to the tickets for an increased cost. The No Expiration option can be added to a ticket even after it is purchased but must be done before the ticket expires. The cost of the upgrade will vary and depend upon the length-of-days of the ticket. The cost must be paid for the entire length of stay of the original ticket and not just the remaining unused days. Thus, whether you purchase the "No Expiration" option before you leave home or after you've spent several days in the park, it won't make any difference in the price to upgrade the ticket. Unused days can be used at any future date (as well as any remaining "Water Park Fun & More" and/or "Park Hopping" options you may have purchased) and offer a built-in safeguard against Disney inflation. Just be sure to keep track of unused days as Disney can not check these for you. See below for prices and upgrading to "NO Expiration" tickets.
Note: Even without the "No Expiration" option, Walt Disney World tickets that have never been used do not expire. You can buy MYW tickets at current prices even if you won't be visiting Walt Disney World for several years and ward off inflation. The main advantage to the "No Expiration" option is that options such as "Park Hopping" and "Water Park Fun & More" options only need to be purchased once on a longer stay ticket and can still be used along with any remaining park admission days on a subsequent vacation trip. The cost of purchasing several MYW Base tickets, however, can often be less than adding "No Expiration" when no other options have been purchased. Please note that upgrading to the "No Expiration" option in order to retain unused "Water Park Fun & More" options without any remaining theme park days is rarely, if ever, cost effective.
While an Annual Pass, which gives you additional discounts & benefits, is probably the best option for those who will be visiting Disney for 11 days or longer or who will do repeat visits within the same year, purchasing a lengthy MYW ticket with the "NO Expiration" option can be the way to go in some cases. For information on how to purchase MYW tickets and save money on future Walt Disney World trips, visit our So You Want to Go Back page.
Additional Days
The cost of an admission ticket per-day decreases with each additional day that is added. While a one-day Adult base ticket will cost $85 (not including tax), a six-day Adult base ticket runs just $43.17 per day. Guests can save almost 50% over the cost of single day admission per day by purchasing tickets of six days in length, with an increased savings for each additional day added. Visit our Magic Your Way Ticket Calculator page for a complete list of options, prices, and comparisons. Children under the age of three are admitted to Disney theme parks for free.

Discounts & Purchasing in Advance
Whichever ticket options are chosen, make sure to buy tickets in advance, either individually or as a component of a vacation package. The one feature that never changes concerning Disney admission tickets is that the price increases yearly. We suggest buying tickets as soon as you make your room reservations for several reasons. Waiting to buy tickets at the gate can sometimes end up being more expensive if prices increase before you arrive. A ticket price increase will also cause the price of a vacation package to go up. Typically Walt Disney World increases ticket prices in the summer (anywhere from late June to early August), although this could change at any time. For this reason, it's advisable to book your vacation as soon as you are sure you are going, especially approaching the summer months. Additionally, there is a great online savings option for purchasing MYW tickets in advance through Undercover Tourist that you can't get when buying tickets at the gate or through Disney online.

Upgrading MYW Tickets
If you change your mind at the last minute and want to upgrade your existing MYW ticket(s) while at the park, the entire value of the partially used ticket can be applied to a ticket upgrade. Partially used tickets must be upgraded before they expire or by 13 days after the first day of use. This holds true even if you've purchased the "NO Expiration" option. In addition, all multi-day tickets must have at least one unused day remaining to be upgraded. So, if you have a four-day ticket and have used all four days, you cannot upgrade the ticket on the fifth day even if it has not been 14 days since first use. For any one-day ticket, such as a one-day MYW or one-day water park ticket, upgrades may only be done on the date of use.
Simply take your ticket to any park Guest Service window to complete the transaction. The current gate price of the existing ticket will be applied to the new ticket. For example, if you originally purchased a 7-day MYW ticket with the "Water Park Fun & More Option" and then found that spending 2 days at water parks and a day at Disney Quest caused you to have 3 days left on your ticket that won't be used during your trip, you might want to upgrade to the "No Expiration" option so that you can use the remaining 3 three theme park days on another trip. You will be charged the difference between the 7-day MYW ticket with the "No Expiration" option and the 7-day MYW ticket without it, even though 4 days of the original ticket were already used. The cost of upgrading your existing 7-day ticket will be $170.40 (includes tax) and you won't lose your remaining "Water Park Fun & More" options. If you were to buy a 3-day MYW ticket with the "Water Park Fun & More" option, you would pay $305.66 for an adult ticket at current prices. So, upgrading to the "No Expiration" option would save money on your future trip, and the cost of that 3-day ticket would most likely have gone up over the course of a few years too. Please note that upgrading to the "No Expiration" option in order to retain unused "Water Park Fun & More" options without any remaining theme park days is rarely, if ever, cost effective.
For your convenience, the quick glance chart below shows the price of adding the "NO Expiration" option to existing tickets of varying lengths, as well as the minimum number of days remaining on a MYW Base ticket needed to make upgrading optimal at current prices.
Cost of Upgrading to No Expiration Option (tax not included):
- 2-Day Ticket: $25 - upgrade less than purchasing 1-day Base ticket
- 3-Day Ticket: $35 - upgrade less than purchasing a 1-day Base ticket
- 4-Day Ticket: $75 - upgrade less than purchasing a 1-day Base ticket
- 5-Day Ticket: $115 - upgrade less than purchasing a 2-day Base ticket
- 6-Day Ticket: $130 - upgrade less than purchasing a 2-day Base ticket
- 7-Day Ticket: $160 - upgrade less than purchasing a 2-day Base ticket
- 8-Day Ticket: $195 - upgrade less than purchasing a 3-day Base ticket
- 9-Day Ticket: $220 - upgrade less than purchasing a 3-day Base ticket
- 10-Day Ticket: $225 - upgrade less than purchasing a 3-day Base ticket
MYW tickets can be upgraded to add extra days (up to a total of ten days), park hopping (plus $58.58 including tax), Water Park Fun & More option (plus $58.58 including tax), NO Expiration option, or any combination of these options. Our Ticket Calculator can show the cost off adding days and options to your existing ticket. First, add the ticket you want to upgrade to to the second comparison chart (using the "Add to Compare" button) and then add the ticket you currently have. The difference in price is what you will pay.
Plus, if you've purchased discounted tickets, you could end up getting credit for more than you actually paid if you use your ticket for at least one day before upgrading. When upgrading "unused" tickets, only the original purchase price will be applied; this can be found on the front of the ticket. Once the ticket is used, the current gate price is always applied, even if the ticket was bought at a discounted price. It's always best to upgrade after using your discounted multi-day ticket for at least one day.
MYW tickets can also be upgraded to a regular annual pass or a premium annual pass. The only exception is for MYW tickets that include the Water Park Fun & More option. These tickets must be upgraded to a Premium Annual pass that includes water park admissions.

TheMouseForLess MYW Ticket Tips
• Unused day(s) on any Walt Disney World "unexpired" multi-day ticket can be used for admission to Disneyland or Disney's California Adventure parks. Present your WDW Ticket at the gate and it will be exchanged for a single day Disney park admission ticket. If you have multiple days left on your WDW ticket, you must repeat the process each day. Only one day will be subtracted from your WDW ticket at a time and the Disneyland ticket must be used on the same day. Disneyland tickets can not be used as admission to Walt Disney World parks. ~ Linda S.
• If you'll be at Disney for a lengthy stay, say 7 days or more, you don't have to buy a park ticket for each day of your stay. If you add the Water Park Fun & More Option, you can use it for several days and not go to the parks at all. This worked out great for us and saved us money. We made a day out of Downtown Disney with shopping, dinner and Disney Quest and another day at Blizzard Beach and then doing some things later in the day at our resort. The cost of adding the Water Park Fun & More Option was less then paying for Disney Quest and Blizzard Beach combined or buying two extra days on our park tickets. ~ Brandi.
• Take a photo of the back of any Walt Disney World tickets you buy from a third party or make a photo copy and keep it in a safe place during your vacation. It will be the only way to get tickets replaced that may get lost on your trip. For tickets purchased at Walt Disney World, keep ticket receipts in a safe place. This can also help get lost tickets replace. ~ Linda S.
• Disney doesn't require kids who have a birthday during a trip to change tickets. They would continue to use their Child ticket for the duration of their stay. Similarly, it's not widely known, but if you have a non-expiring Child ticket that your child used part of, they can trade it in for an Adult ticket if they do not use the rest of it until after they are too old for a Child ticket. This is not possible if the Child ticket hasn't been used - then you'd have to pay to upgrade it to an Adult ticket. ~ Pam S.
• If you are on the Disney Dining Plan, I think that park hoppers are an absolute must. The reason being that you can't always get your reservations in the park of your choice on the day of your choice. Some parks are very crowded on certain days and if your "Table Service" reservation happens to be on one of those days, you won't be stuck there for an entire day when you could be in a much less crowded park. That being said, we were not on DDP this year and didn't purchase park hoppers. PH is something you can add on during your stay without any penalty in price. It is a flat amount and is the same whether you pre-purchase or not. So if for some reason you should find that you need it, you can add it at the parks. ~ Carol in Oregon
