Star Wars Weekends

Disney-MGM Studios has announced that it will once again host Star Wars Weekends. This event held annually, normally during May and June, will be held June 1 through June 24, 2007. To avoid a conflict with Star Wars Celebration IV, the Memorial Day Weekend gathering to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original film, the dates for Star Wars Weekends are being pushed back this year. The event runs for 4 consecutive weekends, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Centered around park's famous Star Tours thrill ride, Star Wars Weekends not only fills Disney-MGM Studios with dozens of Star Wars characters, it's packed full of more fun filled activities than you can imagine.

You can "Meet-and-Greet" with famous villains and heroes from the entire Star Wars saga. Never let your guard down though, guests never know which Star Wars character they'll find around the corner! Coming face to face with an armed Storm Trooper is not uncommon!

Each weekend, different Star Wars celebrities are special guests and take part in meet-and-greets, interviews and Hollywood-style motorcades.

The details of this year's event will be posted here as soon as they are released.

Last year's event was hosted by Warwick Davis, the first ever celebrity host for all four Star Wars Weekends. Davis was only 11 years old when he played the Ewok hero Wicket in Return of the Jedi. In Episode I, he played multiple roles, including that of Anakin's young friend Wald.

The 2007 lineup of Star Wars celebrities, which is subject to change, is:

June 1 - 3: Kenny Baker (R2-D2) & Bonnie Piesse (Beru Lars)
June 8 - 10: Ray Park (Darth Maul) & Daniel Logan (Bobba Fett -- Episode II)
June 15 - 17: Jeremy Bulloch (Bobba Fett) & Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca)
June 22 - 24: Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) & Warwick Davis (Wicket the Ewok)

Jay Laga’aia will be the event host for each weekend this year. Laga’aia is known as Captain Typho in both Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

A little of what to expect:

FASTPASS tickets will be required to receive a celebrity autograph. The tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all the FASTPASS tickets have been distributed for a particular celebrity, a limited number of standby tickets will then be made available. Standby ticket holders will be taken if there is time remaining in a session after all FASTPASS ticket holders have received their autographs and do not guarantee an autograph. FASTPASS tickets will be distributed at Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. Each guest must present their theme park admission ticket to receive a FASTPASS ticket.

Celebrity Autograph Sessions will be held on Mickey Avenue near Backlot Tour several times daily. Be sure to pick up a schedule of times as you enter the park.

Jedi Mickey can be found inside Sounds Dangerous. To get you started, Jedi Mickey will be available at Sounds Dangerous on Weekend 1 from 9:00am to 11:15am; 11:35am to 2:50pm; 3:35pm to 7:30pm. Check times guide for exact times and times for subsequent weekends.

Darth Vader can be found on Mickey Avenue.

An Information Desk will be located across from Sounds Dangerous. Register for trivia contests and get your event information here.

Legends of the Force: A Star Wars Celebrity Motorcade on Hollywood Boulevard. Celebrities, along with our most beloved Star Wars characters can be seen in this grand motorcade.

Jedi Training Academy on the Star Tours Stage, your young Jedi might be selected to learn the skills of a Jedi. Audience members will see those in training test their skills against Darth Vader and Darth Maul. The Jedi Training Academy schedule for Weekend 1 is at 9:30am & 10:20am, 12:30, 1:20, 2:10, 3:50, 4:40, 5:30 & 6:20pm. As always, check your times guide for exact times and times for subsequent weekends.

Other highlights will include:

  • Padawan Mind Challenge (to be held on the Star Tours Stage)
  • Star Wars Weekends Hyperspace Hoopla (to be held on the Star Tours Stage)
  • Artist-Author Signings (at Wicket's Warehouse)
