Trip Planning > Disneyland > Trip Reports > Tony - May 05, 2005
Cast: Tony
Date: 05/05/05 (First day of the 50th Celebration)
Hello folks- 05/05/05 at DL was amazing. I do not have the time to
give a full report but I do want to offer up some do not miss for
those of you that are going to celebrate the 50th. I also want to
say that I'm a WDW person so what I'm commenting on is what is not in
WDW.
Park hopping between MK and DCA is super easy. The distance
between the two parks is the length of Main Street. Get a park
hopper just so you can do Sorin', Tower of Terror, Aladdin -musical,
can not be missed, river rapids makes kali looks silly, bug's land,
screamin' (greatest roller coaster I have been on at a Disney park),
and the block party parade (how often do you get to see bo Peep from
Toy Story?)
Get you Gold Ears at the Mad Hatter! They are a blast and everyone
had them on until DL ran out. And bring those pennies to press.
There are 50 special "magical moment presses all round DL. And the
hidden golden 50th Mickeys are a whole lot of fun.
The two restaurants that you should hit: Blue Bayou go for lunch,
have the Monte Crisco and a mint julep. Goofy's Kitchen at DL Hotel
great food and nice mix of princesses and fab five.
Fantasyland is beautiful. Mr. Toad's ride-wonderful (just remember
that it can be very scary for kids) Alice in Wonderland Ride- loved
it rode it three times. Pinocchio's daring Journey - This ride
rocks! Why is there no version of this in WDW? And the Storybook
boat rides are wonderful- note that Casey Jr Train is in the same
area, but you will not get the guided tour of the miniature castles
on the train. Do both if you can or just do the boat. And the
Mattahorn is too much fun! And I was very happy with the Snow White
Musical. Costumes and special effects are great.
Toontown is so cool. Much more fun than WDW. And all adults should
take a spin on Roger Rabbits Cartoon Spin. - In general I skip
toontown at WDW, but don't skip this ride. It is not just for kids.
New Orleans Square is exciting. Fun little shops. I enjoyed eating
at the French Market- counter service on real plates. Pirates is
longer and better. Ride it after eating at Blue Bayou. And I loved
a different looking HM.
Adventureland wow. The conversion of Swiss to Tarzan was okay for
me. Looked like kids loved it and everyone seemed to understand the
story. Indian Jones Ride is amazing. And the upgrades on the Jungle
Cruise were very nice.
Tommorowland will be fantastic when SpaceMT is open. That said Buzz
is much better here, because the guns are not mounted. Autopia is a
million times better than the Tommorowland Speedway. I dislike TS
and will not willingly ride it again, but I was more than happy to go
on Auto twice. It is landscaped. The cars are cute, comfortable and
don't emit fumes. The jokes are silly and funny. And they gave out
Driver Licenses.
Frontierland has a great bill and the hillbillies show as well as
some great merchandise. Derek and I made it a point to buy things
that were unique to Disney Parks. Such as personalized Sheriff
Mickey and Cowboy Donald key chains and leather bracelets with Disney
character rivets. We also got our silhouettes done for the first
time. They did them in gold and came in a black and gold frame.
Speaking of merchandise bring lots of cash. There is so much amazing
stuff. I ended up with the entire gold ride pins and Derek got all
of the retro pins. We purchased the amazing, but not cheap, 6 CD box
set and love it. And as a side note on clothing: Women and Kids get
all of the cool stuff! Men are stuck with Grumpy (Couldn't Happy
make it onto a t-shirt or tie) and dark colors blah blah blah.
And anyone who is thinking of going…just go!
