Day 3 - June 24, 2006
Today the ship docked in Nassau, bright and early in the am. I
know this, because we got up briefly, to eat the room service breakfast we'd
ordered (fruit, yogurt and a string cheese for me, and I think croissants
for Chris), and then went right back to bed. On our October cruise, I'd
opted to stay on the ship in Nassau, and didn't feel any pressing need to
get off it this time. Chris decided he wanted to sleep in, and somewhere
after 1 pm, we finally got up and got dressed for the day.
The one thing we had agreed that we wanted to do was to go see
Cars, and it was showing in the Walt Disney Theater at 2 pm, so we made sure
we were up and out in time to see it. We made a quick stop at Preludes
first, to get a bottle of water for me, and a diet coke for Chris, and then
settled in at the back of the theater. The movie was good- though, as I
said to Chris, I've seen it before. I do wish they'd been a little more
inventive when it came to the plot, but oh well, the animation and the music
were wonderful, and I was glad we'd gone to see it!
After the movie, we headed up to Deck 9 to find something to
eat. Chris got a hot dog and fries, and I got some chicken fingers and
carrot and celery sticks. Chris set off to get drinks while I went to find
us a table, and on the way ran into Linda and Mike who were hanging out by
the pool with the girls. We talked for a bit- but I had to leave too soon,
because I had to find Chris who was waiting for me by the adult pool. I did
find him, and we enjoyed a fairly quiet lunch, and debated what to do with
the rest of our day. We decided to head back to the room and get our books,
and then go sit on Deck 4 and read, because I didn't want to actually work
out.
Back in the room, we found our Castaway Club gift, and our
invitation to the Castaway Club reception. Neither of us read it too
closely, because we never got past the 5 pm in Wavebands part. So, we
planned to read until it was close to that time, and then head to the party.
We got settled into some chairs on Deck 4, and I love those chairs! At about
10 to 5, we headed in and made our way to Wavebands, where we found bingo in
progress. As it turns out, the party was the following day, so we headed
back to Deck 5, to get my laptop and check my email. When we got to the
Atrium Lobby, we found Carla on her laptop, and I sat and chatted with her
while Chris ran back to get mine.
I was able to get my laptop on, and looked for available
wireless networks, and found one. I logged onto it, and couldn't get any
pages to open. I played with it for a bit, and then gave it to Chris, who
couldn't get it to work either. Then Tom tried. Partway through, I
realized the first problem- the network I'd logged onto was named Royal, and
it just dawned on me that we were parked next to the Navigator, and I was
able to get their network, but not the Disney one. So, while they messed
with it, I headed downstairs to get the official directions from Guest
Services, and then ran back up with them. They didn't help, so I headed to
the Promenade Lounge to try logging onto one of their computers. I was able
to- but of course couldn't remember how I'd forwarded my email, so ended up
running back up the stairs (so much for not working out!)
In the end, we actually took my laptop to the Promenade Lounge,
where I still couldn't get a network, but finally figured out how I'd had my
email forwarded, and was able to check it on their system. After that
ordeal was over, we headed back to the room to get ready for dinner. I
think we ended up chatting in Carla and Tom's room for a while, as they were
right next door to us, and then at about 8, we made our way over to Animator's
Palette.v
While waiting for Annette and the others, we decided to check
out our pictures in Shutters. I was fully expecting to hate the official
pictures, as I normally do, but it turns out that our embarkation picture
wasn't that bad. We contemplated buying it before the others showed up, and
so we made our way into dinner, and got settled at our table, one of the
ones we'd had the previous year.
Animator's Palette is always fun- I get a kick out of the show
at dinner. For some reason, I decided to order the smoked salmon appetizer
(Chris said it looked like spam, it was kind of a glob of smoked salmon
molded around some sort of cream cheese-ish filling). I can't really tell
you why I did it, because I don't like smoked salmon, and I knew that when I
ordered it. But, I took my requisite bite, and decided I still didn't like
it. Our server offered to bring me something else, but I told her it was
fine, and just waited for my main course, which was, surprise, surprise,
filet. The filet was yummy!
During the meal, Joe had finished his drink and decided to be
adventurous. First he told our server to bring him any sort of mixed drink
with a mint flavor, and this perplexed her. She had the bar make something
which was green, thick and foamy, and tasted like toothpaste. After that,
he told the assistant server to bring him a native mixed drink from her
country and to not tell him what it was. She asked for more details and he
said "Surprise me" She was from Poland and brought him what she assured him
was a traditional Polish shot- it was clearly vodka with some red stuff in
the center. He downed it, and then turned a lovely shade of red- after she
was done laughing, she told him that it was vodka, grenadine and Tabasco.
Tonight was our pirate night, so we had bandannas under the
napkins at our place settings. While we were waiting for our food, they
went around and put them on most people, but I ended up with mine tied 50s
style around the ponytail I'd worn that night. These were different than
the ones we'd gotten last year- they were black with skulls, and I don't
think they glowed in the dark.
When it came time for dessert, I realized I'd accidentally made
a spectacle out of myself. When I was booking the cruise, they'd asked if
it was a special event, and I'd said that it was a belated anniversary trip
for us. I should have kept my mouth shut though- because when I thought I
was getting a strawberry shortcake, they set down a plate with a huge piece
of cake, and then proceeded to gather around the table to clap and sing.
Chris always threatens to tell them it's my birthday, because he knows how
much I hate that- and I threaten him with death. And then I went and did it
to myself. Oh well! In addition to the cake, I did get my strawberry
shortcake, and Chris got his all important chocolate peanut butter pie. It
was so yummy, he actually had them bring him another piece.
After dinner we headed to back to Shutters, and ended up buying
our embarkation picture, before we all made our way to the elevators. They
were packed though, so we ended up racing up the 5 flights of stairs to get
outside for the fireworks. Chris, Kyle and Joe beat the girls- but I
figured it was the rest of the workout I wasn't going to do that night ;o)
Once we got upstairs and found a spot, overlooking the adult pool, Chris ran
back down to the room to drop off the picture. We hung out until the
fireworks started, and as I was taking pictures, someone called my name- I
turned and found Linda.
When the fireworks were over, we hung out and chatted for a
while about the cruise and what everyone was up to. Eventually Linda had to
get her kids back to bed, and Annette and I discovered there was a dessert
buffet- so we headed for that. Chris, Joe, Annette and I spent the next
hour or so hanging out on the deck, just chatting by the adult pool.
Eventually it was time to go to bed, and we made our way back down to our
staterooms. As we were getting settled, I found that Failure to Launch was
starting, so I stayed up and watched most of it. We did order a late night
snack- another burger with no bun and fruit for me, this time just chocolate
chip cookies for Chris, and then settled in to bed for the night!
