Okay all-
As promised here is my first trip report. Please bear with me as a lot
happened on this trip and I am working from a journal I kept while on the
trip.
DAY 1 - March 15, 2006
We arrived at Islip MacArthur Airport at 11 am and after checking in John
and I had breakfast.
Since I was in a wheelchair I was preboarded so I had a choice of seats.
Our plane took off late but never stopped to rev its engine before takeoff.
We sort of "blasted off:. We landed in Orlando International Airport 20
minutes early. Once again Southwest Airlines does what we have become used
to landing early.
We were picked up by Bob from Sunray (we finally met after our many phone
calls). We had a wonderful trip to the Sheraton Safari.
The Sheraton Safari looked good from the outside. In the lobby was a long
fish tank with 4 alligators in it.
Our bellman was very nice, his name was Virgil. We checked in at the front
desk and proceeded to our room. We had room 2424 with a2 queen beds and a
view of the pool. Felicia and Vinny had a king suite with a love seat.
They had a palm tree at their balcony with a birds nest with eggs in it. A
few days after checkin the birds hatched.
We went to Downtown Disney and renewed our Annual Passes. Then we headed to Shades of Green to get tickets for the group coming down next week and then had dinner. The buffet was great.
After dinner Felicia drove us back to the hotel and we headed to the bar
(Zanzibar). They close them early in hotels not like the hours I'm used to
in New York. We headed back to our room and made a pot of coffee and
watched television. John and I told the kids we would call them in the
morning to let them know when we were ready.
DAY 2 - March 16, 2006
We got up early because Felicia was driving to Animal Kingdom.
We had breakfast at the Rainforest Cafe in front of Animal Kingdom and
proceeded to the park.
The first place we went was Kilimanjaro Safari and got a special bus because
of my knee. The bus takes us back to where we got on so we saw some sights
we hadn't seen before.
We also saw It's Tough to be a Bug and Festival of the Lion King. When we
finished we went to Tusker House for dinner and then watched the Jungle
Jamming parade. John and I went to the Dawa Bar while the kids went on
Dinosaur.
We went back to the hotel so I could stretch my leg and the kids went in the
pool.
DAY 3 - March 17, 2006
John and I had room service delivered today. The breakfast was good. There
wa plenty of food. The service was quick. Of course, since I only paid
$1.39 a night room service for today cost more than my hotel for the whole
two weeks.
We went to Epcot today and we had a ball. We went on Spaceship Earthand
then over to fastpass Test Track (little did we know we could get o fast
because of the wheelchair). From there we went to The Land and rode
Soarin'. John and I went on Living with the Landand then ate lunch at
Seasons. The kids ate at the Electric Umbrella. After lunch we went on
Universe of Energy. We went to Mouse Gear while the kids went on Mission
Space. We then went on Test Track. Dinner was at 8 at Biergarten and then
back to the hotel.
DAY 4 - March 18, 2006
We're going to Magic Kingdom today.
We arrived at Magic Kingdomand went in two directions. John and I since the
first time we wever went to Walt Disney World have always gone to the left
and this was no exception. We went into Adventureland and straight to the
Jungle Cruiseand then onto the Tiki Bird Room. We watched the show and
headed to Casey's Corner for our traditional hot dog. From there we went to
Tomorrowland and went on theCarousel of Progressthen onto the Tomorrowland
Transit Authority. The kids were waiting for us and we went on Buzz
Lightyear. Then off to Fantasyland to see Philharmagic and Country Bear
Jamboree. We went on the train and then off to dinner at the Liberty Tree
Tavern.
After dinner we went back to the hotel. The kids went i the pool and I
relaxed.
When we got back to the room I received a call from Holli that she checked
June into the hospital. Her description was she has two softballs in her
eye. It turns out she has a bone fragment floating in the orbit around the
eye and it lodged in her muscle. She stayed in the hospital until the day
before they left to come down.
