Who: Linda (40-something) and Suzanne (10)
Where: Hollywood Brown Derby Restaurant, Disney Studios
When: Wednesday, October 25, 2006. Lunch: Cobb Salad (with some
substitutions) and Grapefruit Cake. Suz ate the kids Pita Pizza
which is part of the new healthier kids menu.
Approximate Price of Entrees: Cobb Salad - $13.29. Grapefruit Cake -
$6.19. Kids Meal: $7.49. Total bill $28.73. After Disney Dining
Experience discount it was $22.99. Tip was $6--service was
excellent.
Rate the following (1-5, five being the best!)
Food: 5. I really liked the Cobb Salad even though I had them omit
the avocado and bleu cheese, and the grapefruit cake was excellent.
Although there has been a lot of chatter on the various lists about
the new kids menu I liked the choices--there was also a hot dog and
french fries on this menu. Suzanne was filled up with the salad and
half of the pizza and apples. There was plenty of food for her and
she's a normal sized 10 year old (albeit tall).
Service: 5
Atmosphere: 5. I really liked this place. MGM is not somewhere I
usually go to eat (we often head to Epcot). But at two table
service credits on the dining plan I am hesitant to say its a good
deal, as there are better Signature dining restaurants at Disney. I
enjoyed my lunch and it was reasonably priced. However it was the
least expensive option on the menu.
Okay for Children: Sure. This is a Disney theme park restaurant.
Okay for Couples: Yes. Its on the dark side, plenty of room between
tables, and the cuisine was a bit more upscale.
Be Sure to Try: he desserts looked wonderful. I really liked the
cake.
General tips: Because this is a "signature" dining restaurant it
will "cost" you two table service credits on the dining plan. I'm
not certain I would use two TS credits here--and definitely not for
lunch. Eat here for dinner.
TheMouseForLess tips: This is expensive for a salad but there are some
rather upscale entrees on the menu that I did not select.
Extra Comments: This was a nice and quiet meal. They brought over
a telephone because we had a "phone call". Goofy was on the line
telling us to enjoy our lunch and then have fun at the parks.

What: Dinner (went as part of the Fantasmic package): 1) Cobb Salad for
Two with chopped greens, turkey breast, egg, bacon, tomatoes, bleu cheese,
avocado, chives and Cobb dressing; Roasted Pork Tenderloin with smoked cheese
tomato fondue, sweet corn succotash and Madeira sage pan juices; White
Chocolate Macadamia Nut Praline Cheesecake - with blood orange sauce; 2) Kid's
Salad - Iceberg lettuce with tomato and carrots; Kid's Meal :Elbow Macaroni and
Cheese; Hidden Treasure Dessert - Vanilla ice cream, Oreo cookie crumbles and
gummy snakes.
2) Kid's Salad - Iceberg lettuce with tomato and carrots$1.99 Kid's Meal
Elbow Macaroni and Cheese including drink, milk $4.99; Hidden Treasure
Dessert $2.99
Total meal ( about $69.59 total including tax and 18% tip if I would have
been paying..... I used 2 Dining Plan Credits)

Okay for Children: A little bit fancy, but there were a few children in there. We did go in with our shorts and tennis shoes after having been at MGM all day. (One party of 2 adult women and two 7 or 8 yr. old girls were in there after having visited the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique and were all dolled up in Princess dresses and fancy hair...it was really cute!)
Okay for Couples: Yes
Be Sure to Try: If you like a real Cobb Salad, their's is DELICIOUS!
General tips: There is a patio area as well as the indoor restaurant. It is
a very pleasant place to eat. The server told me I couldn't have the Cobb
Salad as an appetizer as it wasn't included as part of the Dining Plan.
Plus I realized it was just me and it is made for two people so I understood.
I asked if I could pay it separately. That was the main reason I went to
this restaurant.....the Cobb Salad. He later came back and let me have it as
my appetizer. Since it was for two it was too big for me, but even if
shared it really is kind of big and substantial for an appetizer. Its more of an entree salad.
TheMouseForLess tips: The portions were regular sized except for the Cobb
Salad. No money saving tips to offer except it would be cheaper to go there for lunch.
Extra Comments: Overall the food was good but nothing special. I expected
more and probably should have tried the filet mignon instead. One section
of the pork tenderloin was tough, and the tomato set right on top of the wine
pan juices was a little odd. I probably won't go back again except at lunch,
for the Cobb Salad. The Macadamia cheesecake was delicious!! But it was a
smaller portion than the cheesecakes served elsewhere in the World.

When: February 8, 2004
What: Lunch which consisted of 2 Cobb Salads, Iced teas, Bloody Mary's and a child's Grouper meal with fries and a milk. It was DS's Birthday so they also brought him a dessert. We aren't exactly sure what it was but it was tasty. The presentation was great. DS didn't much care for it, but the adults did, LOL.
Approximate Price of Entrees: $65.00 if I remember correctly with tax and tip

Be Sure to Try: I can't say enough about the Cobb Salad and if you like Bloody Marys, this is the place to get them!
General tips: Be sure and get Priority Seating, especially during peak times. We usually try and eat a bit early or a bit late when we dine here so aren't waiting with lots of other people. We had a PS at 12 noon and arrived about 10 mins. early. We waited less than 5 mins. before we were seated.
Dollarless tips: Opt for lunch rather than dinner. The menu is about the same, the lunch portions are huge but less expensive. Try sharing a Cobb Salad and an appetizer or getting two appetizers and sharing an entree.
Extra Comments: We eat here every chance we get. We like the atmosphere and we always try to get booth seating. There is always plenty of room that way to spread out and for the kids to really rest and relax. The restaurant provides crayons and one of those kids menus that they color on. I find that DS's favorite thing besides the food is the chance to doze off and have some time away from the crowds in the "big comfy couches"
