Port Orleans Resort French Quarter
MFL Port Orleans French Quarter Information Page
WDW Website: Port Orleans French Quarter

Submitted By: Leah Durgin

Name Of Resort: Port Orleans Resort French Quarter

Date Of Stay: 10/18/07-10/23/07

Type Of Resort: Disney Moderate

Rate Paid During Your Stay: $130/night with AAA.

Room Sleeps : 2-4

Please Rate The Following On A Scale From 1-10 (10 being the best):

Theming: 7
Room Size: 7
Amenities: 7
Quality: 8
Cleanliness: 8
Transportation: NA - We rented a car.
Recreation: 6
Value: 9

Over All Rating: 8

Don't Miss: The beignets; horse drawn carriage ride.

Room Location Suggestion: If you visit without kids I would suggest rooms in either building 5 or 6. We have stayed in 6123 and 5223, both corner rooms with king beds overlooking the water. The rooms are close enough to the pool, but far enough away that you don't hear all the commotion.

The Mouse For Less Tip: If you want to request a specific room, especially a room with a King bed, fax a room request through to Room Assignments (407-934-5353) seven days before your arrival date.

Comments: This is a great Disney moderate hotel. There's a walking path between Port Orleans French Quarter and Port Orleans Riverside that is great for walks at dusk or morning runs for all you who like that sort of thing. There's also a boat to take you to Downtown Disney! Don't miss the 25 minute horse drawn carriage ride from Port Orleans Riverside through Port Orleans French Quarter.

Type Of Resort: Disney Moderate

Rate Paid During Your Stay: Package Deal included room tickets and dining plan was $700 week.

Over All Rating: 9

Don't Miss: Love the pool. Also enjoyed the food court.

Room Location Suggestion: Had a room right by the food court. Small resort so nothing is very far from the main "hub" of the hotel.

The Mouse For Less Tip: Take time to look around it is very small but so quaint. Boat to Downtown Disney was wonderful.

Comments: We found this resort to be quite and easy to get around. Enjoyed everything about it.

Don't Miss: The Beinegts (spelling? - fried sweet pillows of dough - heaven).

Room Location Suggestion: All of the buildings are in close proximity to the main building, the only suggestion would be to request a water view room, it is very pretty, and you can take a chair out on to the balcony.

The Mouse For Less Tip: No TS, so if you want to have a TS meal be sure to make an ADR over at Boatwrights POR.

Comments: Small children may not enjoy the boatride to DTD when it is dusk or dark, my DD did not like it the last time we stayed (2002), and even at 17 was still uneasy about it?? Also, if you go in the extremely Humid months remember the bug repellent for the boatride, it was one of the places where I was bitten badly.

Name Of Resort: Port Orleans Resort French Quarter

Date Of Stay: April 14-21,2007

Type Of Resort: Disney Moderate

Rate Paid During Your Stay: between $145-$165/night (sad to say, but booked through AAA and didn't get itemized bill (room, park hopper tickets, dining plan all included in our total cost).

Room Sleeps : 4

Please Rate The Following On A Scale From 1-10 (10 being the best):

Theming: 10
Room Size: 6 (with 3 adult sized folks (6', 170 lbs, 5'2" 150 lbs, 6', 96 lbs, so not overly large), and a 13yo (5', 80 lbs), my older son thought the rooms were a little cramped)
Amenities: 8 (pool, hot tub, food court, laundry, store in FQ. Easy access by bus or boat to RS table service restaurant and store)
Quality: 8
Cleanliness: 8
Transportation: 8 (busses at the resort itself were not consistent. There could be 2 busses in a row for one destination, and none for another location for 20-30 minutes. Note that this was not crowd driven. One bus driver might call for back-up busses, if many were waiting for a particular destination, however, we had 2 drivers tell us that they could not call for busses for our desired destination......AK, TL)
Recreation: 10 (pool and spa at FQ; bikes and 4 person bikes available at RS; nice walking paths; boat rides)
Value: 8 (my son would like me to rate this a little lower because of the comments we have made)

Over All Rating: 8

Don't Miss: We liked the pool/spa area. Pool not noticebly heated, for April. Boatwrights in RS was a cool history lesson....my husband is a timber framer, and discussed the numerous wood working tools displayed throughout the restaurant with our sons.

Room Location Suggestion: We were in building 1. It was non-smoking, which is important to me, with allergies. It is the farthest building from the main entrance and food court area. That said, it was not far to walk to those areas. It was next to the "river" and the boat landing, and easy to catch the river boat to Riverside (and Boatwrights, a nice table service restaurant) or DTD.

The Mouse For Less Tip: Take the boat trip to DTD.

Comments: Based on suggestions from others in this group, we took our own ground coffee and filters. We were disappointed that the housekeeping folks did not consistently supply coffee cups for us. On the day of arrival, there were 4 disposable cups. We used them on the first 2 days. They were not replaced on the 3rd day, so we used the bathroom glasses, and left the dirty ones in the sink. They were removed, but not replaced, and disposable cups were not furnished. When my husband asked housekeeping about it, we received 4 more disposable cups. When we used those, they were again not replaced. So, I guess a further suggestion would be to take your own cups as well.
