Western Caribbean Ports of Call

Costa Maya, Mexico

Costa Maya is located on the Yucatan Peninsula and is comprised of two small villages. This location is a relatively new area for tourists, so there is less of a “touristy” feel to it. The ruins at Chacchoben were constructed by the Mayans in the 4th century and were opened to the public recently. With beaches, shopping, and restaurants, there are many fun things to do.

Cozumel, Mexico

Cozumel is an island off the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. This island contains many ruins from the Mayan culture, as well as some of the world’s healthiest coral reefs. There are plenty of beach options to soak up the sun, and there is some duty-free shopping that is touted to be one of the world’s best duty-free ports.

Castaway Cay

Enjoy the white sand beaches on Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas! Of the island’s 1,000 acres, only 55 acres have been developed for guest use. There are beautiful beaches with areas reserved for kids, teens, families, and adults-only. Each person can find his place to have fun and relax. The cruise ship docks right at the island, allowing guests to walk off the ship. Port adventures abound, and the Key to the World card can be used for purchases on the island.

Falmouth, Jamaica

Falmouth is on the northern coast of Jamaica and is central to popular Jamaican locations. Head east to Ocho Rios and Dunn’s River Falls, or head west to Montego Bay and the beaches of Negril. Jamaica is also a great place to try traditional jerk cuisine with fresh Jamaican produce.

Georgetown, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

Enjoy Seven Mile Beach for snorkeling and swimming. Visit historical sites, hike a 65-acre woodland reserve, or shop on Cardinal Avenue. This port requires tendering.

Key West, Florida

Key West lies near the end of the chain of islands known as the Florida Keys and is the southern-most city in the continental United States. This city, with its rich history and ravishing natural beauty, is probably the best known small town in the United States. It has an average annual temperature of 77 degrees and rarely varies more than 10 degrees in either direction. It has never seen frost or snow and averages only 39 inches of rain per year. You’ll have plenty of time to walk in the footsteps of Thomas Edison, Lou Gehrig, Harry Truman, and Tennessee Williams. The streets are filled with sidewalk cafes, open-air bars, legendary pubs, and world-class restaurants. Only in Key West would the sun shine brightest when it sets. Each day’s setting sun is celebrated and, sometimes, even applauded at Mallory Dock. Where artisans, musicians, and street performers pack the city pier as the sunsets shimmer over the Gulf of Mexico.

Galveston, Texas

Galveston is a port of departure for Western Caribbean and Bahamian cruises. Galveston has a combination of beaches, historical buildings, museums, and a waterpark. It is about 50 miles from Houston, Texas.

Miami, Florida

Miami is a southern departure port for Caribbean and Bahamian cruises. Miami has diverse shopping and the “South Beach” atmosphere.  Nearby are Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park.
