Birt Family Focus

Disney MGM Studios - Muppet Vision 3-D/Pizza Planet Arcade, New York Street -- 12/18/02

Howdy everyone!

Today we visit Muppet Vision 3-D and the Pizza Planet Arcade. At the end of New York Street is a fountain. In the middle of that fountain is a statue. Actually, there are small statues all around the fountain, but the one in the middle is the most interesting. It is Miss Piggy a la Esther Williams in a bathing beauty costume reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty. She spins about and sprays water. It's pretty cute and marks the entrance to Muppet Vision 3-D, one of the best shows on the property. This is a fast pass attraction, but honestly, standing in line is a hoot and should be done at least once. The path is lined with punnilicious muppetized movie posters that will tickle the funny bone of even the Scroogiest among you. Take your time when you get inside as well, and read the signs. Check out the themeing- it is all fun and funny. When you get to the preshow area, it's mostly standing room with a very few benches along the walls. The pre-show is about 12 minutes and presented on overhead TV monitors. As expected, it is hilarious. In addition to the video mayhem, you can check out the boxes and trunks of props and belonings of the muppet stars- waaay fun! That 12 minutes will go by quite quickly. Once in the theatre, you will be entertained by a cute little 3-d creation of Dr. Bunsen Honeydew. Don't forget to wear your glasses, or you won't see him. There are even some real muppets in the theatre- watch for Sweetums to run by, the Sveedish Chef runs the projector, and you will find the hecklers, Statler and Waldorf, up in their box, as usual. The Birt Family LOVES this attraction and doesn't miss it- unless, like this past Monday, someone is sick. I thought really hard about letting her and my DH stay in the first aid area a little longer so I could get my Muppet fix, but that would have been naughty and Christmas is too close! Oh well- we'll be going back for a day trip in January!

Some funnies to look for- lots of visual puns-such as "a net full o' jello"...Annette Funacello- get it? Oh yes- look under the mat for the key!

Once you have turned over your giggle box in the Muppet area, stroll across the courtyard and have some pizza and play a few arcade games at the Toy Story Pizza Planet Arcade. The food is ...OK, portions are large enough to share and save a bit of cash. It is a good place for the kids to blow off a little steam, though, and there are restrooms here as well. I know after I have laughed myself sick, I need to find a bathroom, so this is very convenient. You will need lots of quarters here- the games require 2-4 tokens each and each token costs a quarter. Occasionally, Buzz and Woody make appearances here.

Next week, we head down Mickey Avenue to explore the offerings there.

See you later-

Sla`inte~
