Birt Family Focus

Mickey's Toontown Fair, Part 2 -- 3/5/02

Today we look at the country homes of the two most famous rodents in the world - Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

It has long been debated whether these two are married or not. I say not. They are in a mutually committed relationship but Minnie needs her space! OK- maybe not, but I calls 'em as I sees 'em.

Mickey's house is a small cottage with 4 rooms. If I remember correctly, it is painted a sunny yellow with white trim. Mickey has a bedroom, living room, kitchen, and gameroom to see. All his rooms are blocked off and you may only look into them, but look closely, there are a great many nifty things to see.

In his bedroom, notice his house slippers- what a hoot! The kitchen is being remodeled with Donald and Goofy's help. He might have made a bad decision there. He has every sport in the world represented in his gameroom. Check out his Heisman Trophy - it's a custom job.

My favorite part of Mickey's place is his backyard. He has a garden and garage. Mickey has some very interesting specimen plants in his garden. He is also a recycler! Pluto's dog house is also here- see if you can spot him.

Minnie's house , like Mickey's, is on the left hand side of the street. They're kind of in the middle of Toontown, right across from the Barnstormer. Minnie's house is distinct from Mickey's because it is a pink and frothy concoction of femininity. In fact, If I were to look at it with my feminist eye, I would have to remind myself that Minnie has asserted herself by having her own space to keep from being annoyed - even if that space is the epitome of female stereotyping. Still- it's cute and the kids love it.

I must confess I do, too- though I do draw the line at pink! There are tons of visual puns throughout the little house and things are much more hands on here than at Mickey's. One can see that while Minnie is a good house keeper and cook, she is also and accomplished artist and horticulturist. Her garden is superb!

The kitchen and the sunroom of her little house are the most fun. Kids can pop corn in the microwave, bake a magic cake and play with the refrigerator.  Dieters will be amazed at her diet chocolate chip cookies, there for the taking on the kitchen table-go ahead and try one!

All Minnie's furniture is meant to be sat on- or climbed on if you prefer. The plant life in the sunroom is worth a second look. You have never seen a palm tree like hers, I guarantee. In the garden, full of beautiful PINK flowers, Minnie has a little heart shaped gazebo. All in all, I much more enjoy visiting Minnie's house than Mickey's.

I hope you will all visit both, whether you have littles with you or not.
