Disney MGM Studios - Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular! -- 03/04/03

Howdy ya'll-

Grab your whips, pistols, and way cool adventurer clothes, because today we are going to the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular!

If you ever thrilled to the amazing stunts and feats of derring do in the Indiana Jones movies, this is the attraction for you. Here you will be treated to a 35 minute show demonstrating just how they do that. It's much easier than it looks, but waaaay to hard for me. Those stunt people can really take a beating, as you will definitely see here. If you come early, you may be picked to be an extra on the set- but keep an eye on those folks, one of them is not what it appears.

Sometimes there is a preshow in the 20 minutes before the actual show starts but I have not always seen this. I think it must depend on the crowd levels or something, but do go early and see if you can get treated to one of these, because they are hilarious. There are a variety of different performers, none of whom seem to have anything at all to do with Indiana Jones. ;-) They are all equally good, though, so hope you get that piece of magic when you go.

The show treats you to the facts behind the scenes in a variety of stunts seen in first Indiana Jones movie-Raiders of the Lost Ark. That big rolling stone looks pretty formidable in the movie, and it does here, too, until you see two grips rolling it back up hill. However, it DOES weigh several hundred pounds, so mishandled it could do some damage. But that is another part of what you will learn in this extremely entertaining presentation, how to look like you've just been blown to smithereens while keeping your hat on. Indy NEVER loses his hat.

In addition to the big rolling ball thingy sequence, you will learn how to swash and buckle without drawing blood, throw realistic punches, and fall down. You'll see how things are set on fire, over and over again, and find out how come no one riding on the outside of the plane slides off the surface.

This is one of our favorites and is a great place to sit and rest your feet. There are really no bad seats, either. The far sides afford you closer views at some of the props than the center, and the center gives you the up close and personal view of the stunts. It's all good, so go, even if you are a little late. Be sure to pull the "do not pull" rope outside in the queue area, and this is a fast pass attraction, so it is easily planned into your day. It only shows a few times a day, so be sure to pick up your schedule when you arrive at MGM and put it in your day, you'll be glad you did.

Until next week, when we will explore the sound of Drew Carey in Sounds Dangerous.

Sla`inte~
