Mickey's Toontown Fair, Part I -- 2/26/02
Today we start a new "land" dedicated to the amusement of the smaller visitor- Mickey's Toontown Fair.
Toontown is full of scaled down, toon-style buildings. It's full of bright colors and cartoon characters. Littles love it! (so do I ;-) Mickey and Minnie each have houses here, there is a small rollercoaster, plenty of places to shop (of course) and Mickey is ALWAYS here.
You get to Toontown by foot through Fantasyland, or by train. The path in Fantasyland is near the Mad Tea Party. Be aware that this area is extremely popular with families and can get very crowded. We preferred to visit at night or VERY early in the day, often making it our first stop in the MK when Jessie was little. Now that she is a preteen, we make a quick tour of the area, but still enjoy it.
Since we just left the Tea Party, we'll be entering on foot and the first attraction we will come to is the Barnstormer. This is a small rollercoaster, located in Goofy's Wiseacre Farm. Guests ride crop dusters and end up zooming through the barn, just like Goofy himself did. The sound effects include the chickens in the barn getting their feathers ruffled. ;-) Guests as young as three are allowed to ride this but beware as it IS pretty wild for a kiddy ride.
Make sure to explore the farm itself before or after riding the Barnstormer. The observant fellow will notice actual crops growing among the "toon" species. Originally, this area housed a petting zoo, but that is long gone now. There is a shop here that sells the proverbial souvenirs, as well as healthy snacks and drinks.
Right next to the Barnstormer is a large play area called Donald's Boat. This area appears to be a boat docked near the farm and is full of fountains and such for water play. It is a welcome respite in the heat of a Florida day and I have seen more than one parent find it necessary to closely follow their child through this display. There ARE benches for those mom's and dad's who would rather stay dry. ;-) The ship is called the Miss Daisy and doesn't look too sea worthy. Many of the water play fountains are "leaks" in the boat. Inside, kids can steer the boat and toot the horn, which makes a stream of water shoot out the top of the boat. Even my preteen has trouble leaving this area. She loves it!
