Peter Pan's Flight -- 1/8/02
Photos by Carol
If memory serves, we had just had the pants scared of us at the Haunted Mansion. In the old days, we would have now strolled through the arch near the Colombia Harbor House (mmm- is it lunch time?) and took the Skyway to Tomorrowland, done that section, then saved Fantasyland for last and left the park through the Castle and down Mainstreet for the Kiss Goodnight. Sigh---Now we schlep through Fantasyland because we are there, then exit through the hub for Tomorrowland in FRONT of the Castle. We still get a bench and watch the Kiss- but it isn't the same.
So- after passing by the CHH as it is not mealtime (rats!!), we find ourselves in Fantasyland and right next to Peter Pan's Flight. Yippee! This is probably my personal favorite in Fantasyland. Since this section is mainly full of kiddyish rides, I don't do a lot here most of the time, except bench warm and people watch while my DD rides her favorites, but I really like PPF. Unfortunately, a great many people feel as I do and this attraction has one of the longest lines of all the rides in the MK. You do best to attempt to ride this early in the morning, late in the evening on nights the park is open late, or during a parade- if you aren't a parade-a-holic. There can be as long as a 3 hour wait for this little 5 minute ride otherwise.

The cool thing about this attraction is that instead of the usual car riding through the static displays, one sits in the pirate ship and flies over them. It is very well presented, giving the rider a true feeling of flying above it all in your magical ship-doused in fairy dust, of course. The flight takes place at night and the scene of flying over London is extremely well done, at least to this traveler, though I must admit to never having seen London at night...or any other time for that matter! Everything is dark with twinkling lights-as beautiful as the prettiest Christmas Tree. All the scenes of Neverland are blacklit so the colors are rich yet the feeling of gliding along in the night sky doesn't leave you at all. Does the Croc get ol' Captain Hook? Does Wendy drown in the Mermaid Lagoon? I'll never tell- ride it yourself and see. You'll love it, too.
