Family Magic Tour at MK
By Cindy D. - May 27, 2002 |
On Saturday, May 18, 2002, I took my two boys (ages almost 6 and 4 1/2) on a Family Magic Tour at the Magic Kingdom. There are two times each day that
the Family Magic Tour is offered: 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. We took the second tour.
The tour costs $25 plus park admission. I used our Disney Club discount to save $3.75 off each tour, so we paid $21.25 for the tour per person. There
is not a discount for children. I called (407) WDW TOUR (407-939-8687) to make the reservation and went ahead and paid for it with my credit card.
They have a 48-hour cancellation policy so if you think you might need to change plans, be sure to ask about it when you make your reservations.
There are two themes to the Family Magic Tour. The one we had at 11:30 was based on Peter Pan and Captain Hook. We met for the tour at 11:15 a.m. at
the garden area right next to City Hall. There was just one other couple joining us. Our tour guide offered us each a bottle of water (free!) to
take on our adventure.
The premise of the tour was that Peter Pan had stolen Captain Hook's best hook. Hook was gathering a band of pirates to overtake the Magic Kingdom, so it was up to us to find Hook's hook within 2 hours by following the clues on a scroll that we had been provided. And we couldn't tell anyone what we were up to
while going through the park.
We started with a sprinkling of "Mick-sey Dust" and off we went. I won't share the clues so as not to spoil it for anyone who might do it, but I will
say that we hopped, skipped and jumped through the park, quacking like ducks, tick-tocking like a crocodile, and flying through Tomorrowland. Our
tour guide was wonderful and we had a fabulous two hour trek that seemed like it had just started when it was over.
We stopped for a break about 50 minutes into the tour for a chance to get a drink or use the restroom while our tour guide called Mickey to report on
our progress. When we figured out the last clue, we found the hook and were surprised by a visit from Mary Poppins. Because we had saved the Magic
Kingdom, she offered to take us on a ride with her. She offered the Carousel or Peter Pan's Flight. Our group voted for Peter Pan's Flight, so
she took us over and we got to ride it with no waiting.
Afterwards, our tour guide led us and Mary Poppins to a corner of FantasyLand to say goodbye. I understand that the guest character at the
end of the tour varies.
