A Special WDW Birthday
By Julie Huff - May 1, 2002

My son spent his ninth birthday in WDW last year and he still talks about it. Now, this isn't particularly dollarless, and you may feel that your child might be too young to appreciate it, but what we did was hire the pixies off of the giftsofalifetime webpage. Here's what they did based on the results of aquestionnaire about my son, Gunar:

We got to MK early in the morning as arranged. Our family was walking past Cindy's castle when we saw the wishing well was roped off with a big sign that said "BEWARE GUNAR HUFF!!!" That's my son's name, of course. He went absolutely ballistic immediately. Inside the roped off area under the wishing well was a package with a message. The package contained a pirate had for him, a first mate hat (with ears for 16 year old sister prewarned to be a good sport no matter what or suffer the consequences) and a note from Captain Hook saying that TInkerbell had left a lot of presents for Gunar, but Captain Hook had decided to steal them and to find them he and his first mate (who happens to be a better clue reader) would have to follow all the clues. The first clue was to go to Ariel's Grotto. ( This one didn't quite work out because they had just closed the area). Wonder of wonders a woman was standing there and ran up to Gunar saying that Mickey Mouse had just come by and left a message for him. The message was the next clue - which took us to Haunted Mansion. As soon as the lights went out in Haunted Mansion a package dropped on Gunar's head from above. It contained a sword and another clue. Off to Pirates of the Caribbean. Again, just when the lights went dark and package dropped from the sky into Gunar's lap. Another pirate toy and another clue. Off to TInkerbelle's Treasures - another toy, another clue, still no sign of Captain Hook and Gunar's birthday presents. Eventually we ended up back at the Wishing Well which was again roped off because Captain Hook had given up and returned all of Gunar's presents including a special Tink pin for previously mentioned 16 year old sister who incidentally did turn out to be a pretty good sport.

Gunar talks about this adventure at least once a week. How did they know it was his birthday??? How did the clues appear out of nowhere? Could anything like that ever happen again???

Well, yes it probably can, because Mom is a big sucker so Gun and I are trading birthdays this year so he can spend his in WDW and we'll just see what happens. The Pixie lady says she gets a lot of repeat customers and she's sure she can come up with something just as special. If you ask me, these people aren't Pixie's - they're angels. Gunar never saw them and I wouldn't have either if I wasn't looking.

We finished the birthday with a first ever parasail, dinner at chef mickey's and the purchase of a large stuffed pooh at the contemporary. I don't think Gun will ever forget that day.
